2020 was a rough year for most luxury brands. The latter half of the year was spent playing catch up for most brands, as they attempted to make up for lost sales after months of closures due to the COVID 19 pandemic. While some luxury brands held off pushing any new product, opting to postpone new launches or big marketing pushes due to the times, the mentality was a ‘the show must go on’ view of sorts at Louis Vuitton. The brand went on with new collection launches. In late May of 2020, social media became flooded with a silhouette luxury handbag aficionados had never seen before: The Pont 9 Now, nearly a year and a half after its release, the Pont 9 is reimagined in a softer, rounder silhouette. Introducing the Louis Vuitton Pont 9 Soft.
Named after Paris’ Pont Neuf, the oldest and most celebrated bridge in the City of Lights (it sits opposite the House’s headquarters), the new soft version features the same iconic logo as its older sister. The emblematic LV Circle logo is a reinterpretation of a historic logo from the Louis Vuitton archives that dates back to the 1930s. Keeping with the House’s storied DNA, a subtle Monogram flower sits underneath the flap.
Construction and Materials
While the original and more structured Pont 9 is crafted of smooth cowhide, the Pont 9 Soft quite literally rounds out the Pont 9 family with its softer body and rounded silhouette. Crafted from grained calfskin, the LV Pont 9 Soft is lined in leather as well, featuring one main compartment with a zippered pocket. Another main difference, which speaks to the bag’s more casual feel, is the shoulder strap. This mixed-media strap is both removable and adjustable, featuring a two-color textile and leather strap decorated with Monogram Flowers. The two sides of the strap are woven separately and then stitched together by hand.
Sizing and pricing
The Pont 9 Soft was released in two sizes, the PM, which retails for $3,850, and the MM, which retails for $4,100. Discover more now via Louis Vuitton.
