I love a look for less that shows us similar styles without looking like the idea has been completely imitated. This is what I see when I compare the Derek Lam Nadia Hobo and the Olivia Harris Round Zip Pocket Tote. Both of these bags contain similar qualities. Let’s break it down and see what we have.

The Derek Lam Nadia Hobo caught my eye a couple months ago. Of course I saw the leather version, but it was the tye-dye python Nadia that truly stole my heart. The hobo shape is nothing new, but it is the outside additions that makes this design distinctive. Your attention will be caught by the tassel embellishment and the asymmetric front flap pocket. Then we have the Olivia Harris Round Zip Pocket Tote, which features similar outward elements to the Derek Lam Nadia. The zip pocket is shown asymmetrically on the outside of this bag and there is also a hanging logo tag with tassel.

So let’s go over how these two bags are similar and how they are different, shall we? The Derek Lam Hobo offers a more structured and longer shape. The leather is rich and thick, with a shoulder strap that seamlessly flows from the body of the bag. The Olivia Harris Tote shows off a more supple lambskin with shoulder strap ring attachment. The Derek Lam Hobo appears a bit more refined while the Olivia Harris Tote gives us more of a young, fun design. Both bags are gorgeous, both bags give us a similar look, but both bags are entirely different. The prices vary by $850.

Buy the Derek Lam Nadia Hobo for $1,250 at Saks and the Olivia Harris Tote for $399 at Bergdorf Goodman.

I really like the less expensive bag–more of a slouchy shape and a lighter color for summer.

I have the OH bag in a luggage color…purchased it last year and it’s very soft and lightweight. Having not seen the DL irl I can still say I prefer the OH bag. It’s comfy to wear and the front zip/magnetic pocket is very handy.

  • WTCelesta

I think both are lovely in a different way. DL is more glamorous and was in my wish list for a long time until I started feeling that I would love it to be just a bit larger than it is.
OH has a comfy feeling about it that I really appreciate.

I really like the Olivia Harris bag. Thought I was going to love the DL bag, until I saw it in person. Just underwhelmed.

In MHO I prefer the Lam. Love the structure, color, & longer tassel

without looking at the price tag i still prefer the OH bag, the softness and color make the perfect hobo, the price tag just make it even better!!!

The Olivia Harris bag looks sloppy so even though I don’t particularly like the Derek Lam, I would have to go with that one. Has both slouch and still enough structure to where I would feel like my things were just jostled around.

  • Zaneta

The Derek Lam hobo feels very stiff to me. I prefer more slouchy style so I would definitely go with Olivia Harris and also with summer approaching the lighter color is my personal preference. I think the price for OH bag is appropriate but I would not pay for DL bag so much maybe not this one.

I prefer the Derek Lam Nadia Hobo. It does seem stick, but the quality of the bag really sticks out to me.

I wouldn`t go with any of those two, not to mention their overrated price. I gotta say I`m waiting anxious on my LV Artsy :)

I love the Derek Lam Hobo! I went to the store in NY the other day; and it’s more beautiful in person! Thinking of either buying this one or Derek Lam’s deep blue bucket bag, which are actually sold on the Derek Lam website. Check it out: http://dereklam.com/shop/handbags.html. Looks like I’ll be getting one as my summer bag :).
