Lanvin goes leafy for Spring 2011

When Lanvin sent their Spring 2011 collection down the runway, the overall theme was about structured handbags. It was the finale bags, small, egg-shaped, and funky, that caught our attention.

The bag that kept my attention however is the Lanvin Leaf Box Clutch. We did not cover this in our runway review, but it deserves a prevalent spot among other Spring 2011 bags.

The small clutch is a standout not only from the obvious gold leaf hardware on the front of the bag but also because of the snakeskin box shape. Instead of this being turned into a clutch, Lanvin made it shoulder wearable with a long brown leather strap. There is something very rugged chic (think Roman goddess) about this design and I am loving it. Shop Lanvin at Net-A-Porter.

Exquisite! Love the Art Nouveau influence of the leaf design, as well as the stark contrast between the textures of the scaly snakeskin, smooth leaf and matte leather belt. Truly a piece of art to wear!

Different. More Lady GaGaish…than my taste. (ipad)

The leaf is gorgeous and it is the leather strap that makes this a standout. Its pleasantly surprising on this shape and style of purse.

Rachel

That is amazing. Do you know what the retail will be on it? (ipad)

Love it! It would be great if the straps were removeable…

The colors and textures are very pretty but the overall design isn’t all that outstanding.. I feel like anybody couldve just put a leave on a clutch with shoulder straps and make them out of different cool materials.. Th design didn’t introduce any innovation!

annabelle

i like the detailing of the clutch!

It’s gorgeous – although, I would ditch the snakeskin for ethical reasons.

If it were available in regular leather (stamped, or otherwise), or fishscale, I would probably buy it.

Vitta

What are the ethical reasons not to use snakeskin, but instead use regular leather (cowhide, kidskin, goatskin, pigskin, etc)?

Beyond! A work of art…HOW I would love to carry that and sit it next to me at any event ( I would just staaarre at it). The rough leather strap gives the ying/yang that makes it easy to wear with everything.

I like the leaf. It’s beautiful, but I don’t like it on that bag.

I think this bag is super chic and fun looking at the same time. I like the long shoulder strap. I think that it brings a cool edge to an evening look, and it can be worn during the day as well.

Marianna

What a beautiful bag! I am always drawn to leaf designs and this is no exception.
