Introducing GUCCI ZUMI

Gucci plays with exotics for its Spring 2019 bags

It may be cold outside but Gucci is warming us up with a look at its newest bags before they hit stores later this year. For Spring 2019 Gucci introduces the GUCCI ZUMI collection, which makes use of the hardware we’ve seen on Gucci’s bags as of late. This hardware marries two iconic Gucci House elements into one—the Interlocking G and Horsebit hardware. The hardware is modeled after a rare piece from the Gucci archives. It was chosen directly by Alessandro Michele himself for its classic design but modern appeal.

Named after LA based actress and musician Zumi Rosow, the GUCCI ZUMI collection features several shapes and sizes and includes both classic leathers as well as ultra-luxe exotics. This collection embodies Alessandro Michele’s vision of beauty, which intertwines a person’s personality, individuality and attitude. In many ways Zumi Rosow encompasses Michele’s overall perception of beauty.

First up, we took a look at the GUCCI ZUMI Medium Top Handle Bag in dark brown crocodile. This is a super structured, yet sleek bag with a double lift-lock closure. For dual-functionality there’s an adjustable (and completely removable) shoulder strap. Inside, the bag features a middle zip interior compartment as well as a zip pocket. This top handle bag is, of course, finished with the the Interlocking G and Horsebit hardware. The GUCCI ZUMI top handle bag is available in two different sizes—medium and small. In addition to exotics, both sizes are available in smooth and grainy leathers as well. The crocodile version seen here retails for $36,000, while the Medium top handle leather versions start at $3,200.

The GUCCI ZUMI collection also features an of-the-moment mini-bag with a top handle and a chain strap. It’s stunningly eye-catching in green crocodile, though it also comes in smooth leather. There’s a detailed chain strap which is removable so that this mini-bag can be hand carried strictly as a clutch. A pocket adorns the back of the bag and the GUCCI ZUMI Mini Chain Shoulder Flap Bag is finished with the same iconic hardware as the top handle bag. In crocodile it retails for $11,000, while the smooth leather version is priced at $2,600. The GUCCI ZUMI collection hits stores later this year, with leather variations arriving in March, followed by exotics in April.

I don’t like it at all. The GG’s with the horse-details looks busy, like they are trying too hard. And the overall look very “old” and dated. And not in a classic, and classy way.

I think I’d like it better with GHW, instead of having the gold and silver mixed like that.

I am probably in the rare group (are there even like, 5 of us? haha) that is not crazy in love with alessandro michele’s gucci. I mean, I get his style and vision, and it’s not like I hate it – I’ve even picked up a couple items here and there. But I rarely seem to get what everyone else sees in his stuff. When I see how every single person for the past couple years seem to be singing praises as if he does no wrong or as if it’s the best thing ever it makes me scratch my head. I do get that it’s all personal taste in the end, just feels weird because normally I’m pretty inline with the general consensus and popular trends (I know, I know!).

This is another piece of his for me that just makes me go “I don’t feel like it’s anything special heh”.

I’m with you. I’ve not liked anything from day 1. Bunch of flashy garbage.

I absolutely loved the Dionysus line and even bought a piece (my first Gucci, I have fairly recently started my collection), but noting else has caught my attention. Do people even like the newer collections? I feel that the Dionysus and the Marmot lines were very hyped, but after them everything kind of escalated…?

I totally agree! I have a few pieces in black or white but I just don’t get the obsession with extravagant motifs and crazy prints. It is trendy but it’s just a matter of time before it fades.

I’m probably in the minority, but I love everything Gucci. However, having enough money to buy everything I like is another story. 🙂

It’s ok, but not $36,000 ok. And the handles look kind of cheap. They could have at least made them rolled rather than run of the mill flat. For that price, I could get a gorgeous made-to-order peekaboo and still have change for another bag, shoes or SLGs.

Or a Birken or a Kelly!

Maryanne

Birkin.

I love the bags but I hate that Gucci logo. It’s unnecessarily gaudy.

I love the first bag. Probably because it’s in an exotic. I’m cringing at the picture of it just sitting on a NYC stoop though lol. That is NOT a smooth surface appropriate for croc lol. Oh and that fence picture.

?4ladyfox

My thoughts exactly! At $36,000, I’d be way more careful where I set it down. Hanging it on an iron gate, makes me cringe. ?

Not feeling any of them. Remind me of a musty thrift shop

….At least it is exotic? The Zumi is not my favorite hardware but definitely less obvious than marmont!

I’m so bored of fashion houses use of horses things and try to make it trending these days. I get Hermes and I like horses as animal but not for fashion.
P.S: this is too busy and ugly logo.

The brown croc bag looks like something an elderly Lady would carry and $36,000 for a Gucci handbag is madness.
