One of the reasons many of us are purse-obsessed revolves around the ability a handbag has to transform an outfit. Sure, plenty of our bags are meant to be our daily, functional bags, but we wouldn’t call ourselves handbag aficionados without an appreciation for the artsy pieces designers offer. Many of us own those special pieces, knowing they are meant for specific and special occasions while also knowing that the bold statement they make is worth the lesser wear. This is the case with the new Gucci Sylvie 1969 Plexiglas Mini Bags, which is a play on the House classic Sylvie bag with a modern interpretation.

Crafted from Plexiglas with gold-toned hardware, the signature Sylvie bag transforms into a pop accessory (think South Beach vibes with a tailored twist). The candy-like hues of pink, sage, and ivory are playful yet would pair well with more traditional outfits or streetwear-inspired looks alike. Though this spin on the bag changes it completely, the bag still carries the archival design elements and immediately stands out as a rendition of the Gucci Sylvie.

For majority of people, this is not a daily bag (though I envy those that can carry less and make a statement piece like this work for daily use). The interior expands, but not incredibly wide, so you need to carefully edit down what you plan to carry. There is an interior open pocket, it’s small but I’d use it to slide some cash or credit cards and leather lining which is a luxurious touch. The stiff shell opens wider than you’d imagine, hinging along a bottom with a nifty accordion-like leather expansions on either side, offering comfortable access to its interior. This Plexi Sylvie is on the heavier side, which is to be expected with the full Plexiglas body.

The gold-toned metal Marina chain shoulder strap lends a sophisticated accent and offers a 22″ drop (it’s also detachable). The drop is enough to allow the bag to be carried crossbody, which is always a plus for hands-free use. The exterior gold-toned hardware really pops against the already shiny plexiglass and eye-catching, vibrant colors. The top handle offers a 3.1″ drop, and would make this bag a great evening option. Overall dimensions are 7.9″ wide x 6.1″ tall x 2.2″ deep.
The shiny materials stand out and turn this bag into a work of art, one that will have anyone who sees the bag talking. This bag is the embodiment of a statement piece, one that you may rarely grab from your closet, but when you do… you do so with purpose and conviction.
After all, fashion is supposed to be fun!
Available now for $2,980 via Gucci.

What a Barbie bag! I wish I was cuter so that I could pull this style off! The size would work fine for my daily essentials.
There are plenty of people this bag is big enough for!
Yeah, all I carry is my phone, a small house key and two cards, so if only the dimensions are big enough to fit my phone, it works! 🙂
I actually don’t hate it. But I don’t think I could bring myself to drop three grand on it…
Um, I sort of love this! Can we assume color transfer would not be an issue with this bag, given the material? Or is that just wishful thinking?
Def no color transfer! I can assure you of that, I had the bags in person. Plexiglass won’t transfer 🙂
Looks cheap and like a toy!
Bag looks similar to furla and jimmy choo candy with outrageous price tag.
I actually like this. Although, if I were to buy a plexiglass bag, I would rather get one of the whimsical Chanel minaudières.
So plastic Barbie, I love it! But 3K for a piece of plastic, their skulls cracked somewhere along the way…
Gucci has a brilliant marketing campaign! Selling plexiglass for thousands for an astronomical profit margin; however, the consumer has to be gullible enough to buy into their business model for it to be profitable.
Kind of eye catching-for $3K I wouldn’t add it to my collection but think it would look great with dresses and suits.
3K? Why does every bag cost 3k now. I mean seriously. I believe MOST of the success for the Marmont line was because it was priced from $800 to under 2k. In that span there was so many bag styles and colors and everyone went nuts for it.
Yes, there are many contemporary brands with bags priced under $1000, but most bag lovers really want higher end brands, which is our own fault for chasing the labels… but 3K is an insane price for this bag. Everyone is a more informed customer. We know the resell prices, we know the coming and going of trends and I think most bag lovers are tired of it. I know this is a sponsored post, so you have to stay positive… but 3k? No. No. No.
I like this. I may need to stop by gucci this weekend to have a look.
Definitely do! There are a lot of new versions of the Sylvie, this one is really cool!
They are cute enough, but I can’t with the way the flap would open pre-bent:(
I like, but I’d never purchase because of the size, price, fad etc… You’ve gotta know that we’ll soon be seeing Dorit Kemsley carrying this bag!
I would love to own this. It strikes just the right tone of whimsy. But I won’t pay $3,000 for a plastic bag with limited usability that will become scratched up quickly.
I like them but I really don’t like Gucci’s gold hardware. It’s really brassy and a bit ghettofabulous! I’d like to see some box bags made of this with silver hardware. I’m not into top handles that can’t be removed either.
Lol 3 k for a plastic bag
3k for a plastic bag ?
