A Close Look at Gucci’s New Slim, Sleek Everyday Tote

Introducing the Gucci Rajah Tote...

The tote is not only one of the most recognizable handbag shapes, but also one of the most usable, and it can be found in every well-rounded handbag collection. Totes are a silent-but-permanent fixture in the handbag realm, a bag you absolutely must have but that often feels overlooked because of its practicality. Totes carry our work items, our kids’ items, our gym items, our personal items, and everything in between. And though they don’t get as much love as they should, almost every one of us has at least one tote, and many of us use our totes as our trusty, go-to bags.

Though totes are practical, you should never neglect style, and that’s precisely what this new Gucci bag delivers. Introducing the Gucci Rajah Tote, a bag that not only fits plenty of daily must-haves, but also provides the right amount of fashion-forward appeal we’ve come to expect and seek from the brand. The Rajah line is synonymous with the tiger-head detail, which sits front and center on this tote, along with Gucci’s signature green and red web down the front of the bag.

Many people assume a tote needs to be large in all ways, including length, width, height and depth, but that isn’t the case. The Rajah Tote features a slim body, and this design transforms the bag into a far more interesting piece. It’s a bag that will sit comfortably over your shoulder with the double chain straps (they have a 10″ drop), and because the body of the bag isn’t wide, it will sit snugly against your side.

GUCCI Rajah Maxi Tote in White, Interior – $2,500

Don’t fret if you’re looking to carry your work items: this bag fits them. A laptop, wallet, magazines and notebooks, and a couple of small pouches all fit with no problem. The interior offers a detachable pouch with a zipper closure, which is a major plus. The top of the bag offers a magnet closure, which easily snaps together. You can always choose to carry this bag as a top handle as well.

Sometimes, a simple design stands out plenty, and this is the case with the Gucci Rajah Tote. This bag has a retro-inspired look, and the tiger head is finished with colored enamel and sparkling crystals to stand out. Inspired by a vintage piece from fashion and jewelry designer Hattie Carnegie’s archives from the 1940s, the tiger head features colored enamel and sparkling crystals, which provide a really nice touch.

One of the perfect pairings with this tote is a pair of sneakers (you know I’m a bag and sneaker girl), and I fell for the Gucci Ace Sneaker with Strawberry Print. A mix of a throwback 70s vibe and reminiscent of my childhood, these shoes offer the right amount of fun with function. If you want a shoe that is influenced by vintage sportswear with a modern twist, the Gucci Women’s Screener Sneaker with Crystals may be for you. Both fit the current embellished sneaker trend and both work with these totes.

Gucci created a few size options of the Rajah Tote: there is a Maxi size (22.5″W x 17″L x 3″H), but the large size proved large enough for me, with dimensions of 17″W x 14″L x 2.5″H. In fact, I really like the idea of a tote like this, one that obviously is a tote and is plenty tall, but provides a slimness in the body you wouldn’t expect. I want to be the girl that doesn’t have to carry the biggest bag you’ve ever seen, but I also know I still need to take quite a bit with me at this stage in my life, and this bag fits my style needs and practicality. Purchase via Gucci for $2,500.

Love the discreet tiger logo more than the big old GGs.

Megs Mahoney Dusil

Ya, I really like the tiger logo a lot! It’s very Gucci without the GG logo

Thanks for posting

We decided not to involve a model for the shoot. As Lina mentioned, check Gucci’s site for an on-person look!

Lina Lee

You can go to the website and you will find a model holding the bag. Click on one of the bags.

Ok Thank you

Lina Lee

You’re welcome.

I tried this bag in store over the weekend. Even my husband said that he liked it and it would make a good work bag. That surprised me because this man never comments on my bags. I really liked it. It’s sleek and minimal which is what I like in a work bag though not an everyday bag. Also, it’s pretty big.

Megs Mahoney Dusil

Ya, it’s really sizable! So funny when our significant other’s comment on a bag when we wouldn’t think they would 🙂

Passerine

It looks ok for carrying a portfolio — I could easily see someone in a creative role in media or at an agency using it. But none of the women I work closely with said they’d use it for a work bag and I wouldn’t either. We work in a more formal environment.

FashionableLena

I’m a teacher so I mostly carry papers. It would definitely work for me. It doesn’t scream Gucci. My husband is very conservative and practical which is why I was surprised that he liked the bag.

Megs Mahoney Dusil

It’s slim for sure, so you’d have to have thinner items to carry – and yes, I think this bag would be great for someone in a creative role!

Candee

This was very helpful, thank you!

Sara

These pictures are so good!! Way to go team Purseblog!

Megs Mahoney Dusil

Thank you! We love how this piece came out too!

Sarita

They are so pretty and made me realize that I need a vacation!

Donna Warder

I love the screaming floral print, because I love being extra.

Jerri R

Extra ftw!

MamaSleepy

The lion head reminds me too much of Versace. Esp with crystals. Yes, the double GGs were often too large but I appreciated their simplicity. Sorry to be a Negative Nelly!

Passerine

I tried to like this bag, but I have to go against the tide and say it doesn’t appeal at all. I showed this column to some of the women I work with and not one of them said they thought it qualified as a bag they’d want to take to work or as something that would say “professional”. And it’s too big and square for casual use. Nobody could think of any reason they’d want this bag over what they already have or what’s on their shopping list at either higher or lower prices. As for the lion’s head, the way it sits on the stripes makes me think of a weird Tommy Hilfiger/Penn State mashup.

Susan

I agree, not a professional looking bag at all.
Just over-priced

Passerine

And yes, I know it’s a tiger, but at first glance, it has a lion roaring look about it.

FAB…U…LOUS pics. The Rajah Maxi Tote is beautiful in all colors, sizes and materials. LOVE GUCCI!!

Megs Mahoney Dusil

Thank you, I think Vlad did amazing with these pics too! Such a great everyday, throw-over-your-shoulder and go tote!

butterbox

Yes, it is a great everyday bag and I wore mine (brown velvet) all thru Fall and Winter. It’s comfortable to wear on your shoulder because the chain is NOT heavy. I’ll probably get clap for saying this, but I find that Gucci has very reasonable prices for their bags, including shoes, wallets and accessories. GUCCI rocks my world!

Master Green

I say it all the time, but I just don’t like these “In Collaboration with” posts. They are just a fancy ad disguised as an innocent blog post.
I actually really like this particular bag… but it feels like finding an ad in your Facebook feed.

Marshon

You are really exhausting! You are snarky, provoke arguments and then cannot take any constructive criticism. Your goal is to attack, demean and always have the last word.

LindaL

I agree. He is exhausting and negative. Never has a positive thing to say. And the ironic thing is he is wrong most of the time. Probably what makes him so hostile and determined to voice an opinion no one wants to hear, let alone agree with.

Master Green

Thanks!

Master Green

Thanks!

Cindy

I believe that these “in collaboration with posts” are actually necessary to finance Purseblog. I enjoy this blog and would hate for it to collapse due to financial issues. These posts are entirely transparent and not disguised as anything else, as you suggest. You have the option not to read them if you “just don’t like these posts”.

Master Green

What an insightful reply…

Cindy

Thank you! So sweet of you to acknowledge my insightful reply!

Master Green

Of course! Genius must be recognized and celebrated!

Cindy

Genius? You flatter me! I hope that your day is as pleasant as you are, enjoy!

Master Green

Thanks Karen!

vintagecheerwine

Chic sleek.

Chelsea Girl

May not have given this a double take if I saw it in the shops since its not my style. But seeing them in this post is making me rethink – I just might get it.

sophiesbazaar

I love this bag but I am worried about the metal pieces. Do you think they will age well? They look too shiny for me.

karie

I have this bag in the red and I adore it. It is so comfortable! My MacBook Pro fits PERFECTLY inside it. It is comfortable on the shoulder. I just love it!
