There’s been a lot of shake-ups in the handbag world over the last year, and one of the ones that I personally felt the most was Clare Waight Keller’s exit from Chloé. I adored Waight Keller’s work while at Chloé—she churned out big bag hits for the brand such as the Drew and Faye Bags. Though I was saddened to see her go, I was intrigued when she was appointed creative director at Givenchy. Truth be told I was underwhelmed by her first design for the brand, but today I’ve got a treat for you all and I think you’ll agree when I say Givenchy‘s newest bag might be Waight Keller’s next big hit.
Brand new for Pre-Fall 2019, the Givenchy Mystic Bag is a slightly structured, top handle bag with a flap top, and a tab closure with a snap. According to the brand’s official Instagram, the name of the bag is an ode to the half-hidden lock, which when closed aligns to form a double G, and when open reveals the metal logo plate. Currently, it’s shown in solid colors, in what appears to be smooth leathers without a grain. It looks like there’s both a small and a large version of the Mystic Bag. The bag features a top handle strap, and while most top handle bags these days are released with a removable longer strap option, this bag doesn’t appear to have one. See more below.
I really like it.
I absolutely Love this bag It only reminds me of the peekaboo bag because of the open closure, but other than that its unique. Claire really upped her game on this one.

So basically a redesigned Fendi Peekabo.
I agree. I immediately thought of the Fendi Peekaboo.
I get the Peekaboo vibe too. The top handle and the top bar, mean-to-be-seen hanging open, etc
This looks nothing like a peekaboo. Strange comment.
Actually quite different from the Peekaboo since it has a flap and only one opening. It’s definitely a similar shape to the Hermes Kelly, like a woman’s briefcase bag, but without the long strap.
Is it just me or are all these bags shown hanging open? Why not at least one closed?
I’d be on my knees scooping up my bag’s contents!
I know, right! Those open closures make me nervous! 🙂
The short strap would be a deal-breaker for me.
Oh wait, maybe the bag is meant to fit snug under the shoulder- like a hobo bag? This would make the large body design more logical, since one could handle more weight if it’s right under the shoulder and against the torso.
It looks like it’s adjustable.
Yes, it looks adjustable to me also, and at first I thought it was, but the article says it isn’t. The last paragraph calls it a “top handle” strap, and says the bag doesn’t come with a removable long strap option.
Especially such a large bag that looks heavy.
Givenchy has no brand identity. Their vision is completely unintelligible.
Because they just got a new CD. Tends to happen when a new person comes in…
She’s been there for a few seasons now.
I think brand identity takes more than a few seasons to build. That’s just me though.
At the very most it’s a Kelly esque bag. Don’t get the Peekaboo references though. I like it. I’d need to see it in a small size and CLOSED. Seems like a good alternative to the Celine 16 which is wayyy too overpriced , only to become irrelevant when Hedi leaves. As long as the small size is as small as the K25 or smaller were good. It’ll lose its shape too quickly if the small is any bigger.
The top handle is also NOT adjustable. I’m sure they’ll bank on people buying straps from them just like every other current brand does. Don’t like our strap? Buy a new one.
I like it in the off white color. I love top handle bags, they are very lady like. However, I don’t like bags that are tough to get into and I’m thinking these may be like that.
Underwhelmed
If you look closely there’s a tiny clasp. The bags ARE closed.
Its like a fusion of pandora and antigona for me. Maybe because I am a big fan of Givenchy that’s why I like this bag.
Looks a bit heavy but I like it, Givenchy is going in the right direction. Maybe finally will regain its identity.
I think I’d prefer a smaller version of this. It has potential!
Just absolutely luxurious when you see it in person and my crush Charlize Theron has been rocking it. Definitely will be getting this one . Especially that caramel tan , it’s such a unattainable color . No designer ever gets it right. Givenchy has antigona that has that beautiful color but pretty hard to get hands on . Also Loewe has this color but it has clashing silver hardware with a shape that’s not very appealing to me . Chloe has some but color is very orangey . This is the only one that has right color , beautiful gold hardware , timeless shape that’s comfortable to wear and looks luxurious
