Fendi’s Fall 2019 Couture Bags Are Everything Couture Bags Should Be

From Marvelous minis to intricate Baguette's, we've got a look at this stunning collection

A beautiful and elaborate ode to the late Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi showed its Fall 2019 Couture collection late last week in Rome. The show was set on Palatine Hill, and the location was an obvious choice for the brand as it both celebrated and strengthened the historical bond that Fendi has had with Rome since 1925. The quintessentially Italian city thrives on art and culture, and it’s these values, coupled with Lagerfeld’s influence, that inspired creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi.

Couture bags are expected to more extravagant than those shown alongside RTW collections—they are meant to be showy and ornate, they’re not meant for the everyday. These bags are everything that a couture bag should be. The Baguette was shown, of course, in a few different variations. There was fur, embroidery, beading and even tulle. A a sleek and structured chain clutch also appeared on the runway, featuring gold hardware and Fendi’s iconic double F logo in what looks to be rich exotics. But the standout piece, was clearly this mini baguette with handmade micro beading, which is truly a work of art in and of itself. View all of the bags below.

It’s 2019…enough with the fur already. It’s offensive.

valerie

You sound like you care a lot..why so hostile and nasty? She didn’t say anything to personally offend you, she gave her opinion, just as you did..but she did NOT infer that you were an immature person who was overly delicate (“Adults” “Safe space”) as you did. And you are dead wrong when you say “no one cares about what offends others.” Speak for yourself, don’t assume.

Diane

If somebody is willing to pay for a fur bag I see no reason why not to sell it to them. Last time I checked it was legal to wear fur. Stop with this and go worry about yourself not what other people wear. Seriously what is wrong with society today?

Cathryn

I can tell you what is wrong with society today; it’s people like you that have absolutely no concern with anyone or anything other than yourself. Have you bothered to take 5 minutes out of your life and google to see how the animals are raised that go into making these “luxurious” bags? These animals live a miserable and tortured existence and then are killed so someone can wear them as a coat or purse. That is what is offensive!

valerie

Bless you!

Mary

I must have tunnel vision because I only saw the bags, but when I went back I saw the fur coats. Fur has offended me for years. When my mother-in-law was alive she gave me 2 of her fur coats, which I couldn’t wear. After she deceased I returned them to her estate and another family member happily wore them.

Petra

Quite a few of the bags are made of fur too? 🙂

Mary

I know. I was preoccupied with the hardware and not really paying attention to anything else, obviously. 🙂

Sarah

Except for the hardware it doesn’t look like Fendi. With that said I’m not in love with any of them and I really like Fendi, but this was a huge turnoff.

Aliza Zibkoff

Gorgeous, luxurious, beautiful! Am I salivating?

Sparky

Glimpses of clothing are stunning. Fendi’s artistry with fur is phenomenal. I don’t wear fur but I appreciate Fendi’s skill and imagination.

DanD

Definitely agreed. I have been watching their furs for a while and they definitely can give grandma’s old furs a great fashionable boost.

Master Green

Beautiful collection.

Jin Park

Completely uninspired and hideous! How do these terrible ideas even pass the drawing board? Pic #2 looks like muesli pieces stuck on the bag. just HIDEOUS!

paris1278

wow very nice

Jenna Emmons

I’m happy to see the artistry of the baguette revived

Maybelle

Are these soiled vintage bags? I can’t tell what I’m seeing. 90% of these bags are terrible.

DanD

I have to say I really loved a lot of these purses and fur coats. Especially the first photo of the beaded sunburst bag & all the clip ones that will probably hold a pack of cigarettes and a LG Chocolate but very nice take on early sleek marble Lucite hard plastic purses (especially #32)(but sorry wouldn’t pay that much for plastic). The carving and texture of the fur is phenomenal for all the coats. In fact the only thing I don’t like are the clunky fur bags with the massive shoulder straps.. as comfortable as they may be. Thats not saying I cant see the woman who would carry this type of bag, definitely a market for that. The heels are kind of a miss for me as well – they look very cheap, even the boots. Final note I have to add are the sheer fabrics that looks like marble in #13 & the golden (watery) sheer in #14 both look divine. I definitely “get” this collection. Very Fendi and I love it.

valerie

EW! Not for me. they look like they are made from 1960’s decorating samples, or diner linoleum. And Fendi’s main business is ornamental furs, so I prefer not to support that.

Spare me all the trolling about how wrong I am and how fur is great, and your daddy hunted all your life because meat, and I should go live in another country because to not like fur is un-american.

There is almost always a nasty pileup of trolls after anyone dares to disapprove of fur that is farmed to make clothing.

Lara W

Having watched a wee doc on fur, i’m not a supporter either. Second hand vintage fur i’m okay with as it was made many moons ago under different times and whats done is done, but nowadays I don’t think its something compassionate humans should be continuing with.

Lara W

These look all vintage. I love photo 32 as a small purse.
