10 of the Most Expensive Bags for Sale Online Right Now

There's rare, there's exotic and then there's the $65K bag...

Earlier this spring I stopped dead in my tracks when I spotted a pair of Saint Laurent boots that cost $10k. That wild discovery inspired this post, and I promised that soon there would be an updated wildly pricey bag edition. Well my friends today I’m making good on that promise and bringing you 10 of the most costly bags for sale right now on the internet. Some of these prices may shock you, some my scare, and others are downright unbelievable.

Most of the designers included on this list aren’t all that shocking. The Row, though a smaller and newer label, has been on this list in years prior, and Bottega Veneta is wildly known for its stunning exotics. Designers like Gucci and Valentino are in on the fun as well. For most of us, spending into the mid four-figure range is a tough pill to swallow, so could you imagine dropping well over that for one of these bags? Regardless it’s fun to ooo and ahh over these works of art. Which one would you carry if you could?

Margaux 15 Alligator Top-Handle Bag ($65,000)

Bottega Veneta Cocco Souple Pouch Crocodile Soft Clutch Bag ($23,000)

Valentino Uptown Crocodile Top-Handle Bag ($22,345)

Alaia Alligator Bucket Bag ($21,420)

Thom Browne 3-Strap Small Crocodile Leather Bag ($19,890)

Bottega Veneta The Knot Crocodile Shoulder Bag ($15,500)

Gucci Ophidia Alligator Bag ($15,000)

Bottega Veneta The Lauren Croc Clutch ($14,800)

Akris Aimee Medium Satchel ($12,900)

Gucci Zumi Ostrich Bag ($11,000)

I don’t wear or carry exotic skin. I don’t understand the purpose. Aren’t they only killed for their skin to make handbags, shoes, etc.?

Bryan Lepe

Depends on the animal. Some are used for the meat as well.

Sal

Crocodile, alligator and ostrich are killed for their meat as well? What animals are you referencing?

chris

Yes, American farmed alligator and ostrich are meats often used in restaurants. Alligator bites are in any bar/restaurant in southern Florida, ostrich often also is farmed for its meat and skins, and ostrich burgers can be found on the menu next to buffalo burgers… unsure about croc.

Lindy Moorey Termotto

Yes, those 3 animals are harvested for their meat.

Sal

Yes, after I posted I did some research and discovered this was true, which I found interesting.

Master Green

Why is Hermès missing from this list? On the US website, there are several extraordinary bags in exotic leather available for purchase, including a black Lindy for $41,500.

Megs Mahoney Dusil

We didn’t include Hermès, Chanel, LV in this post – so changed the title to reflect that!

Sparky

Amateur writers. The head should read “SOME of the most expensive…”. But this is typical of PB.

Amy

The title could read “Ten Expensive Bags on Sale…” which would be more descriptive and eliminate the constant barrage of criticism this blog sustains. Of course, there will be those that will aggressively defend their position, but that’s to be expected as well.

Amy

“Ten Expensive Bags For Sale…” NOT “On Sale”.

Lori

I was just going to make the same note as I saw that Lindy last night and expected to see it here on this list. And the Double Sans is always on the Hermés website as well. Expected that one too.

Master Green

That Double Sens is beautiful but I don’t love these colors (not that I could afford it at 30K+ lol).

Lori

Ha! I wrote Sans…like “not being there” rather than Sens! That makes me laugh. And I also could not afford a $30K bag…But then I don’t wear exotics, so that keeps my bag prices much more reasonable.

Jaime

A lot of aligators and ostrich. None of these appeal to me, they are just too much in appearance and price.

Ice

Meanwhile, we have large crocodile/ python skin duffel bags, and bags of every size selling for less than $100 in my country. Amazing how capitalism works.

Rosa Lily

If Akris is going to use ostrich at least make an attractive bag. That looks like a knock off.

Canuck65

I think the Margaux is gorgeous.

Micc Tan

The Alaia Alligator Bucket Bag is cute!

PatekGirl

I think the exotics are beautiful but like most of us cannot afford them. Wish you would do a list of most expensive non-exotic skin bags. Birkins would be among the top obviously but curious to see who else would round out the list. Thanks!

Not sure I agree with these ‘Let’s look at these overpriced items and drool’ post. Its a shame the PB continue to work as a blog extension for overpriced brands rather than present unbiased post to readers. If your going to present expensive bags then you should also give a unbiased view on Quality, Craftsmanship and Value. Sustainable arguments on luxury are greatly needed.

I had a stunning Made to Measure Tote made in Turkey in Ostrich, quality is stunning and cost less than $1000.00 – Its a shame brands are cutting corners and chasing shareholder profits as opposed to customer satisfaction.

Karen Ferreira

Love this! Some gorgeous bags that will never grace my closet but fun to drool over! ?

valerie

Frankly I think it’s obscene. It’s for people who think;”Hmm I’m bored..maybe I’ll go out in the back yard and set fire to some money!”
Might as well. It’s a damn purse, yo!
I will shell out way too much for a bag, I admit, but there’s a limit, beyond which it just seems tacky and insensitive. Also, poor crocodiles!
I think I just became a communist.

SomeChick

Gee you don’t sound miserable at all.

valerie

Do me a favor and stay on topic. This is not a personal dig forum. We are discussing purses, for God’s sake and I think Birkins too damn expensive.

Jerri R

I don’t see you as sounding miserable. You are socially conscious and feel strongly for some issues. I feel similarly 🙂

valerie

Aw, thanks.

SomeChick

My comment isn’t personal and I owe no one any favors. My response is toward the observed negativity in the previous comment you left, but after seeing your reply, negativity seems to be a theme.

valerie

How could I possibly be negative with people like yourself being so helpful and understanding?
This is what I get for visiting a place where people talk about purses. Duly noted.
I’m going to go feed my Chanel’s now.

Candee

Speaking for me when I read your initial comment it read like it was “personal” and completely unnecessary. I’m not sure of your reason for saying “you don’t sound miserable at all” since this comment is not related to bags. Also, despite that I own a Birkin I agree with Valerie that it is “too damn expensive”; however, it’s something I’ve always coveted and therefore I purchased it.

valerie

Rock that thing!!!

MissDemeanor

I don’t buy exotic skins. I don’t agree with it. I’ve bought leather in the past but I’m slowly turning away from that too. I couldn’t spend that amount on a bag when there are people starving! I’m trying to be a bit more conscientious.

Kimberly

There were not any bags that I thought… “I have to have that bag!”… that’s saying something when you share bags that a life long hand bag collector dismisses!

Jerri R

Good thing none of them appeals to me

Jeloi

I didn’t see one bag that I liked enough to pay that kind of money for, if I had it. These bags cost as much as a car or in 1 case a house or down payment on a house. Even if I had millions, I wouldn’t buy them.
