On Saturday, famed French champagne house Veuve Clicquot hosted the 7th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Liberty State Park, overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The Classic has become synonymous with impeccable style, and Vlad and I were fortunate to attend the event and scope out the best bags and style of the attendees.
Let me start off by saying that this is one of those times where I constantly felt the need to pinch myself. From beginning to end, the event exceeded all of my expectations and then some. We started in Battery Park and caught a Veuve Clicquot ferry to Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Mother Nature was kind enough to give us one of those gorgeous days; the sun was shining, but it wasn’t too hot, and there was a nice breeze as well.
After we landed at the dock, it was a short jaunt to the polo grounds. Fun fact: a polo field is the largest field a sport is played on, it’s the approximate area of nine American football fields. Veuve spared no expense turning this park into an impeccable Veuve Clicquot experience.
There was a VIP section on one side of the field that left no detail out, from the yellow and orange flowers, to the endless food stands with everything from local apples and bread, to an all-encompassing spread fit for a king. DJ Nick Cohen gave attendees a great mix of music, and of course, the Veuve was flowing.
We mingled with friends who were also in attendance, like designer Rebecca Minkoff, style blogger Blair Eadie of Atlantic Pacific, the team from Tibi, plus countless celebrities including Lupita Nyong’o, Julianne Moore, Busy Phillips, Olivia Munn, Dakota Johnson and Aaron Paul.
Yet the party was only getting started; the other side of the field was packed with a stylish set who brought blankets and baskets of food to enjoy the festivities. We saw beautiful white ensembles from the ladies, one-of-a-kind hats and an amazing handbag assortment. The men didn’t disappoint – they looked dapper with their suits, vests and bow ties.
For the polo match itself, if you haven’t witnessed one in person, you should try to. The game is fast-moving, high-scoring and beautiful to watch, as the horses and players maneuver the field with precision and ease. One of the best traditions is being able to stomp the divots, which everyone took part in, including Lupita.
