Is This Louboutin Bag the First Evening Backpack?

As you might imagine, after six years of writing about handbags every day, it’s not often that I see a bag from a major brand and think, Huh, that’s completely different than anything I’ve ever seen. That’s exactly what I thought when I saw the Christian Louboutin Sweet Charity Snakeskin backpack, though, and I’m a little bit obsessed with it.

I follow someone on Twitter who cracked a bunch of jokes about wanting to see someone wear a formal backpack during awards season, and every time she said it, I found myself unable to picture what that would look like. Something with dainty chain straps like those on the Valentino Lock Bag or Chanel Reissue Flap Bag, maybe? As it turns out, the answer lies on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Imagine these jeweled straps over any kind of black dress or top. They’d work on everything from strapless to long sleeves, with any kind of neckline. You wouldn’t need to wear a necklace or earrings–this bag would be your entire look, in a way that bags rarely are, even for those of us who love them. I’m dying to see someone wear it.

Evening backpacks: who knew that was even a thing?

You can pick up one of your own for $2,295 via Neiman Marcus.

I can totally visualize it with a plain silk jumpsuit and kitty heels-for some edgy chic. I wouldn’t dare bring those spiky looking straps near my beaded delicate dresses though!

It’s so unbelievably hideous. Are the uncomfortable shoes not enough? Now the Monsieur would like to torture women with his bags.

I’m with ya sista 🙂

you don’t have to buy them…

missarewa

I don’t. And you didn’t have to respond to my comment.

I think it is gaudy

It’s not for me but it is creative and unique.

I really wish they showed a photo of a model wearing it!

I can see someone like Rihanna rocking this, but I don’t think it will ever be mainstream. The classic evening red carpet look will probably always be the go to look. Having a minimal clutch has been the established and accepted look for so long, I don’t think people will stray from it.

Sofia

Do they have a non-backpack version? Like with just a single strap? Because the strap is beautiful

Kitty

I would like this bag more if it was designed as a cross body bag. The strap is really beautiful. Perhaps this is a concept designers should experiment with a little more: embellished straps on a relatively plain bag

I would love to see someone wear it during fashion week. I feel it’s more for a chic street style kind of look than redcarpet.

Yikes that’s a terrible bag and concept IMO. LOL, can you imagine if it were a cross body, it would like a you were wearing a machine gun chain full of bullets!

Giselle

I love it and I can see it being worn with YSL type of black smoking!

Perfect pair. Someone who understands the concept of wear what you want and not what other people think looks good. Thank you.

Sparkletastic

That is so hideous I am actually finding a way to like it. (I need to go lie down)

I love it but would not wear it. Bags don’t belong on your back unless you’re trekking.

The straps are beautiful, but let’s be real, this weird as all get out! Its weird like headband spectators women wear for the Kentucky Derby with birds and all kinds of thingamabobs and whatnots hanging off and standing up. All those jewels can’t be comfortable on bare skin and if you wear anything delicate or bulky you will either snag your clothes or break the straps. Its just weird and expensive….

As sophisticated as a formal visor or a formal shower cap.
