Chanel Brings the Camera Bag Back for Cruise 2025

An ode to its roots...

There was a time when the camera bag was one of the most-wanted shapes in the handbag world. It was the mid-late 2010s. The time was pre-pandemic, and the small-medium-sized bag’s popularity was on par with the times, catering to the girl on the go.

Somewhere between sweatpants and shoulder bags, the camera bag, once the standout star of the bag world, took a backseat in favor of mini bags and shoulder bags, which spoke to the rise in 90s-era fashion.

Now, camera bags have never disappeared entirely. They’ve remained a part of most designer line-ups thanks to their usability and affordability. Camera bags were and are one of the most useful handbag styles.

The trusty ol’ camera bag includes a majority of the following characteristics: it’s typically on the more petite side, rectangular in shape with a long crossbody strap and a top zip.  Given its name, thanks to the fact that its proportions would have been perfect for the chunky cameras of the late 90s and 2000s, the camera bag is making a comeback this year.

Chanel is the latest luxury brand to bring the camera bag back, and we can’t stop thinking about the fun little pastel numbers that hit the runway earlier this month during the brand’s Cruise 2025 show.

Chanel Takes Marseille

The collection embodies a freedom of movement with unique details that are nods to the ocean. The bags themselves are a nice mix of novelty and classics, with the usual sequins, tweeds, and metallics adorning House staples.

Then, there was the simple yet unmistakably wearable take on the classic Chanel camera bag. This version trades classic quilts for an ode to Chanel’s first address at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. Appearing on the runway in light pistachio green, baby pink, and snow white hues, this casual take on a fan-favorite shape is finished with a detailed chain strap.

look like a soap

Thefashionableteacher

This looks like a bar of soap.

Stfu

That’s not a camera bag dummy, that’s a soap bag

Passerine

Was so excited when I read the headline… I love the classic Chanel camera bag. But this is a total disappointment. What on earth were they thinking?

Terri

A great alternative to store your bar of soap. *wink*

James

I love these H & M or ZARA inspired new collection 😝 So tacky 🤮

Passerine

And you can bet this “fun little bag” will have a price tag that is anything but amusing!

Sally

Believe the first Chanel address is 31 Rue Cambon (not 21 Rue Cambon)

Sandy

A camera bag would be a great addition but curious about what it is made of? Is this leather?

Tina

Yes

Gia

It’s soap.

Fabuleux

The post is inaccurate. The address is 31 not 21 rue Cambon.

The street is named after Pierre Joseph Cambon, a political figure of the French Revolution.

Pip

I can see the soap comparisons, but it also looks like a take out container to me. Horrible and cheap looking. I hope the new designer does better.
