Stars, they’re just like us..! Summer hits, and out comes the fur. Kidding, but if anyone can pull off fur in June, and in New York no less, it’s Rihanna.
Our fashion queen was shining bright like a diamond (sorry, I had to) while out and about in New York earlier this week. The music mogul-turned-beauty entrepreneur is entering a new era of founderhood with the launch of Fenty Hair. While in New York to promote her expanding empire, RiRi has been killing the fashion game, and we just can’t get enough.
Not-So-Fresh Off the Runway
Ever a fan of vintage clothing and bags, her carry of choice this week might be one of our favorites as of late. This bag is right up there with her impressive collection of Tom Ford-era Gucci. After donning two current bags earlier in her New York tour, it was nice to see Rihanna revert to her penchant for vintage.
This time, the Fenty Beauty founder opted for a vintage Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse Alma MM from the duo’s first collaboration in 2001. In a way that only, and I mean ONLY, Rihanna can, the bag paired well with a simple cami, joggers, stilettos, and a statement fur.
What a statement it was to sport fur in June. But I guess when you’re Rihanna, you can do whatever the you-know-what you want (the air-conditioned chauffeur doesn’t hurt either).

Her bank account and charity don’t look silly; maybe Shes having a rushed day.

I believe it is vintage Galliano based on my research. I know fur is a very divisive topic, but IMHO vintage is acceptable as it already exists. I would personally buy vintage fur as it prevents it from ending up in a landfill but would not buy new unless faux. Thoughts?

I agree. Rihanna’s fur appears to date from the 1940’s and is fun in this context, I think. Nicely styled and wards off the chill as she moves from one air conditioned place to another.
Real fur is an organic product and will quickly decompose when discarded. Faux fur is a petroleum-based product and will linger in landfills for centuries to come.

I remember wanting this bag because I loved the graffiti print.
Also, I don’t find her poorly dress, and I’m no fan of Rihanna’s music or her overhyped make-up line. She’s wearing a tank top, black pants, and heeled sandals. Fur coat aside, this look (at least for me) is fine and tame. Usually, Rihanna elicits several eye rolls from me. I don’t find her style aspirational at all.

I love that She dared wearing fur! I’m tired of the wave of people condemning it. Fur is sustainable and can be passed on for generations. Other winter clothing most of the time don’t break down in nature and poison the soil with the oil products they are made of. That’s not good for wild life.
I live in a cold country in the winter and treasure my fur. But fur in NY in June is a but ridiculous. I don’t think that was a good look. Like the LV though.

Fashion is supposed to be about creative self expression and fun. I think her outfit checks both boxes. Why not fur in June if she wants? Didn’t we just suffer through the no pants trend where we saw people strolling about in their underwear or in leotards?
And I’m sick of people who wear leather and other animal skins while eating meat or taking medicines that are animal by products (like estradiol) complaining about fur. If you don’t want to wear it don’t. But, I’m going to keep loving mine til I die.
