One question I am asked often is how to clean bags. And I will tell you a little secret: I don’t clean my bags. I also haven’t had a bag that really needed enough love to be sent out for a cleaning, and on top of it, I simply wasn’t sure I could do it well. I was worried I would ruin my bag. I didn’t spend enough time researching it or testing it, so I wasn’t about to share information.
Luckily, we’ve had a few contributors who knew about cleaning bags and shared some great info, and now FASHIONPHILE has released its own Handbag Cleaning Kit.
Here’s the thing: you often need to go with those who know. FASHIONPHILE is in the know. Since 1999, the company has cleaned over 2 million bags. That means practice and time, which means skill.
The Handbag Cleaning Kit
This is a three-part system, involving a cleanser, a conditioner, and a microfiber cloth. Honestly, we’re clearly at the place where our bags are getting in on the self-care game, and if I am going to be diligent with my bags, I better be diligent with my own routines. That was me digressing for my self-motivation to keep up with the skincare routine, but I digress.

Another great aspect of this kit is that the team at FASHIONPHILE did the testing to share which bags and materials this kit is best suited for, how to test, and how to use it. I appreciate the research and knowledge, and being a rule follower myself, if someone else puts in that work, then I am here to follow it.
The process involves cleaning and conditioning the leather to restore your bags and give them additional life. The microfiber cloth provides the right touch for this process and won’t transfer dust or particles to the bag.

The kit can be used on bags made of smooth or grained finished leather, coated canvas, patent leather, nylon, and vinyl. However, it should be used with caution on vachetta, as it may darken the patina.
Materials to Avoid!
Avoid the following bags: Suede, nubuck, exotic skins, embellished or hand-painted surfaces, vintage pieces with cracking, or full-fabric bags.
I am excited to give my bags a bit more TLC, especially some of the older ones that clearly need a bit of love.

I received a free one after I purchased a bag for $1,000, a month ago. However, their policy may have changed.
I also received a free kit about a month ago from Fashionphile, after purchasing an Hermés shawl. It was a delightful surprise and I have been very impressed with the quality of it and the packaging. My bags look great!
I never clean my bags either. So this might be nice to try!
