One of my favorite weekend activities is going to Target and strolling every single aisle in the store. It’s my way of decompressing at the end of a long week, and I consider it a treat to enjoy my “me time” in my personal sanctuary. A few weeks ago I was indulging myself and casually strolling the aisles on a Saturday morning when I saw the most striking bag. I was taking my time in the shampoo aisle when it happened, I spotted the prettiest pebbled leather tote sitting in the cart next to mine. I’ve said I’m taking a break from totes, but the heart wants what it wants. After staring a few seconds longer than socially acceptable, I couldn’t identify any brand name or other markings except a beautiful and ornate, but unfamiliar to me, embossed logo on the top right corner of the bag. I took a mental snapshot of the bag in my mind and moved on to the lotion aisle.
About 20 minutes later I bumped into the woman with the mystery tote again, this time in the candle aisle. I stared at the bag once more and had every intention of asking her which brand made this beautiful bag, but she was on her phone and I felt that my opportunity was lost. I browsed a few more aisles before moving on to the self-check-out, still wondering about the bag. When I see a bag I love, I become obsessed and have to learn every detail I can find about it. I couldn’t wait to get home to conduct a deep dive search for this gorgeous tote.
After a long morning of shopping, I was ready for some much-needed caffeine and decided to stop at Starbucks for an iced almond milk latte before heading home. The bag stars aligned and as luck would have it, the woman with the beautiful tote was ordering a coffee in front of me. After we had ordered I was able to strike up a conversation and ask her where she had gotten her bag. She couldn’t have been nicer as she told me it was a Loewe bag that she had purchased from Nordstrom. She didn’t know the exact style of the bag, but a quick search later I learned it was a Flamenco Knot tote. I had heard of Loewe bags before and am familiar with the brand’s iconic puzzle bag, learning about it when Megs featured her puzzle bag in 2017, but I’ve never looked at any of their other styles. I thanked her again and excitedly rushed home to start my research. I relish discovering new brands, and was looking forward to reading up on Loewe.
Of course the first place I searched for more information on Loewe was PurseBlog, and when I found an article from 2016 stating Vogue had named Loewe the top competitor of Hermès, I felt my heart skip a beat. A few clicks through their website and I fell fast and hard for the Spanish luxury brand, taking an immediate shine to creative director Jonathan Anderson’s designs. I instantly felt the inklings of a new obsession emerging. Do you ever get that feeling when you see a new bag or brand? The one where you just know it will be one of your favorite bags before you even bring it home? I’m feeling that way with Loewe! It was pretty much love at first sight in the shampoo aisle at target, and I’m on a mission to buy a Loewe bag in 2019.
Below are some of my favorite Loewe bags. Do you own a bag from Loewe? I’d love to hear about it!
I am loving Loewe bags as well! I’m really debating on getting a Puzzle but am not sure what size. I think both the small and medium have their pros/cons. And I LOVE the look of the Hammock bag – so chic and modern with clean lines yet sooo interesting looking too! The Flamenco tote looks great as well.
The Grate tote bag has been on my wishlist ever since it came out. Something about it really just speaks to me.
* Gate Tote
I have not been too fond of the brand overall, it’s quite commonly seen in Swedish fashion magazines and Swedish bloggers talk about it, but it never really caught my attention in a good way. I really can’t stand the Puzzle bag. Yes, can’t stand might sound like an overreaction, but there is something about it that get’s me in a irritated, bad mood just looking at it! Haha. But the Missy tote was quite cute, and the Flamenco wasn’t bad at all either, but I liked it much more in black version they had at the website!
I do love the small puzzle and the mini is adorable. The mini hammock is the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen. The Amazona is classic Loewe. I wish they hadn’t taken off the feet and d ring on the puzzle. It prevents it from being used as a backpack/messenger style.
I love the Mini Hammock too!
Really appreciate the articles about lesser discussed brands like Loewe!
While I do think Lowe bags are very inventive in their designs, I looked at the Gate, Puzzle and Hammock bag, and none of them appealed to me – the hammock bag seemed way too open, not very secure; getting access to the zipper on the Puzzle bag would drive me nuts as its hidden under that leather flap – and the big flap on the Gate bag would also drive me nuts – but I generally dont like flap bags.
I have a small puzzle bag and I absolutely love it! The leather quality is superb.
I think they’re old-school is a really good way- pieces that are meant to become family heirlooms!
I own the puzzle in large and it’s been a decision I haven’t regret. It’s such a beautiful bag. That and a long sweeping wool coat is my go to outfit.
I’ve tried several Loewe bags in store, and I don’t get the appeal. While they’re nice to look at and have very cool designs, they are just too fussy to get in and out of. For me, an opening has to be simple.
I prefer the old Loewe from the 80’s.
I appreciate the simplicity of the bags, but there is something “off” for me. I think it is the overall design and the price. I feel that many ppl are becoming immune to paying so much for bags that $2250 for a tote is “normal” and a drop in the bucket.
I remember catching the Loewe bug. It is far less annoying than the flu but vastly more expensive! Ahhh, the puzzle bag!
Loewe is a brand that belongs to LVMH (as Dior o Vuitton). It was born in 1846 in Madrid by a German inmigrant. In Spain means luxury because the quality is on top, the leather is the best and the tecniches are in a great great level. In Japan there are 40 stores since more than 40 years and there is stores in Miami, London, Milan and Paris.
The designer today is JW Anderson (who has created new desings as Puzzle, Hammock or Gate), but the Amazona was a best Sellier by the simplicity in its shapes and the details. Narciso Rodriguez worked in the 90’s before to be world famous.
In Usa this brand wasn’t so famous becouse the marketing was very low but since JW Anderson has arrived the marketing and the Department stores have put the brand in the media and street.
Enjoy the bags, and please touch them becouse you will notice the quality.
Most designs look overcomplicated. The only one I like is the Puzzle bag.
I own a midnight grain leather hammock and couldn’t be happier. The bag is very stylish and the leather is luxurious. I’m very happy with my bag. ?
Glad you feather the brand. It deserves more recognition.
I already have 2 Loewe bags, puzzle bag in small size and the hammock bag in mini size… next, i’ll purchase my 3rd which is the small gate ? well, the addiction is real…
Its extremely hard to find a bag that stands with its quality rather than huge logos and hardware. Loewe brand got me interested because I saw a tan bag in this beautiful shade of tan . For some reason very hard to find perfect shade of tan bag. Givenchy has one and it’s antigona in brown sugar but shape is very old school and only option to wear it is shoulder bag . Loewe puzzle you can wear multiple ways. To me only con is in the USA it’s not very sought after or recognized brand. I am not sure about paying so much money not very known name. I just love the color and look and minimal design
