Daniel Lee’s runway debut for Bottega Veneta has been long awaited since his appointment as Creative Director last summer. The Celine alum teased us with his direction for Bottega Veneta with his over-exaggerated intrecciato weave bags for Pre-Fall 2019, but now we have a first look at his debut runway collection for the brand.
The bags, and there were many, included everything from pillowy leather flap bags to structured mini bags and everything in between. Lee has obviously put his own spin on Bottega Veneta, yet the bags at their core pay homage to Bottega Veneta’s brand DNA. The leather appears superior and the smaller structured bags make use of Bottega Veneta’s meticulous attention to hardware and closures (however there were no knots to be seen!). Though fans of the brand may be wondering what this direction means for their beloved Bottega Veneta, this collection is both refreshingly unique and it takes a chance, which is nothing if not admirable for a new designer. I am LOVING this!! The soft texture with oversized waffle look is gorgeous. AND no logos to top it off. Take all my money now!

Is anyone else seeing chocolate bars?
Marshmallow puffs
Nope. Waffle irons.

11,17,23 IS THAT A BRILLO PAD?!? Other than that I am in LOVE with that gorgeous puffy flap bag. It looks so soft and like I could take a nap on it if I get too tired from dealing with life.
Hahahaha that made me laugh my friend lol
This collection is stunning! This is really giving new life to BV after a few years of stagnation. I loved TM but we needed something fresh, and there it is!
So puffy- reminds me of a cartoonish version of quilted Patagonia puffer
I love the architectural intrecciato bag! Modernized Bottega, which is a fresh new twist. I don’t particularly like any of the other bags – they lack any brand identity, which would make me wonder why I should buy from BV when I could get any architectural, good quality handbag from a up-and-coming smaller designer for less than $1000.
Forget the bags. I need more information on those jackets especially the on in picture #14.
Love this line and your blog.
OMG! Where´s Bottega Veneta in this collection?
Glad that I have the BV bags that I have.
hmmm… interesting. something different definitely. I like #25, the leather jacket.
Hmmm….not sure. Intrigued, but need to see them in person to decide whether they are a cool variation on the BV aesthetic or just weird. TBH, when I look at premium Italian bag brands, I’m leaning away from Fendi, Ferragamo, Prada and BV and more towards the lesser known labels like Fontana Milano 1915.
I didn’t know about this brand. Do you have a handbag from FM 1915?
Some of them are interesting looking and others are way too strange looking (like the brillo pad comment). Honestly, I think the only designer who got it right is Claire Wright Keller for Givenchy.

They look like they weight a ton empty. Not for me.
An interesting experiment, but some look a bit cheap and not very well crafted in my opinion.
A big “NO”. Impractical and ugly!
I am a long time BV bag owner but I don’t like one of these bags. oh well.
So far from what we know! Tomas Maier!!!! Kinda tryin’ to be Chanel.
I like this collection. It is interesting, modern, sleek yet playful. I give it a thumbs up.
