Louis Vuitton taps Muhammad Ali for its latest Core Values campaign

Following the likes of Angelina Jolie, Buzz Aldrin and Bono, three-time World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali is the newest face of the Louis Vuitton Core Values campaign, alongside one of his grandsons. When announced at the end of last week, Vuitton CEO Yves Carcelle said, “”Muhammad Ali is the epitome of an outstanding personality – a true living legend in boxing and far beyond.” The photos were shot by Annie Leibovitz at the boxer’s Phoenix home.

Vuitton’s Core Values campaign is intended to show the brand’s classic products used in “real” life and by “real” people, instead of the seasonal bags that are featured alongside models in the company’s traditional ad campaigns. In this case, four-year-old C.J., son of Laila Ali (a champion in her own right), stands tall near his proud grandfather, who has a Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Keepall serving as a luxury gym bag at his feet. The ads appear to be just the first element in Ali’s involvement with Louis Vuitton – check out a teaser video with him and Yasiin Bey (who you might know better as Mos Def) after the jump.

The perfect pair: Proenza Schouler PS11 + Bottega Veneta Necklace

Some accessories are a match made in heaven, and I have found a combo that’s beyond stunning. All I want to do right now is buy both of these items and wear them all summer long, with my crisp whites as well as casual boyfriend jeans and t-shirt. This pair and all of its possibilities are precisely why I love accessories; they’re outfit-changers.

The Proenza Schouler PS11 has made its way into the handbag world as a chic staple and this Bottega Veneta Multi-color Necklace adds spunk to any outfit. This is what I call a match made in fashion heaven.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong tried to settle a lawsuit with fake Birkins

It’s not often that our Real Housewives coverage and our handbag coverage intersect, but sometimes when a reality TV star finds herself in financial straits, the stuff in her closet is all she has left with which to barter. (Side note: Why do people in financial distress find themselves so attracted to television? Bravo doesn’t pay that well.)

That’s apparently what happened to Taylor Armstrong of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame, who recently settled a lawsuit that had been brought against her and her late husband Russell over allegations that they defrauded MyMedicalRecords.com for over $1.5 million while they claimed to seek funding for the company’s growth. Because Russell hanged himself last year and the truth finally came out about the couple’s financial situation (they were flat broke, they had few liquid assets and they rented their massive home), Taylor had to turn over her personal property to work toward fulfilling the settlement. That included some of her handbag collection, but as it turns out, the Birkins were all as fake as her lips.

Step into the ethereal world of Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2013

Earlier this week, Massimiliano Giornetti presented the Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2013 collection at The Louvre in Paris, France. This is the first fashion show in history to be held in the museum’s famed halls, and it was quite the star-studded event befitting such a beautiful locale. As much as I love the celebrity angle, the Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2013 collection was about much more than who was there. It was about the venue and, most importantly, the clothing.

Under the arcades of the Denon wing, Ferragamo’s collection waltzed down the museum halls with subtle neutrals and gorgeous exotics that possessed an ethereal beauty. The palette stuck to offshoots of tan and cream that showcased the craftsmanship and richness of the precious materials used. From wovens to laced-up details, to perforation, to crochet, to lattice leather, there was no shortage of beauty. As for the bags, I am drawn to the crisp white hobos and shoulder bags made of luscious crocodile skin adorned by tassel detailing.

The Many Bags of Miranda Kerr

Over the past couple months, we’ve been slowly working our way through not only the best handbag collections in Hollywood, but also through our mental list of girl crushes – women for whom we feel an enthusiasm and fondness that borders on romantic. A couple of weeks ago, we checked out Megs’ biggest girl crush, Jessica Alba, and this week, we’re on to a girl crush of my very own – Miranda Kerr.

It’s not that I’m an enormous fan of her professional work – I make a concerted effort to avoid the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show every year – but instead, it’s Kerr’s personal style that makes me swoon. She’s generally regarded as a commercial model, but any time she’s photographed out and about, she always looks utterly impeccable. Beyond reproach, even. Her look is sophisticated and modern, and although she carries trendy brands, her picks from designers like Celine and Alexander wang are unexpected enough to keep me guessing. Well, except for her Yves Saint Laurent Cabas ChYc, but it’s starting to feel like those are being issued to starlets on arrival at LAX. Check out our Miranda Kerr handbag retrospective after the jump.

Start your day with Lanvin sparkles

Thursday is my least favorite day of the week lately. You’re so close to the weekend that you can almost taste it, and yet you still have a full day of work ahead of you before you can even get to Friday. And then a full day of work on Friday before you can get to happy hour. I don’t know how to describe that, other than “cruel.” Particularly when it’s summer outside and all I want to do is go get some frozen yogurt and stare at something that’s not my computer for a few hours. I’m sure almost all of you can feel me on that one.

My employment (and your enjoyable blog-reading) count on Megs and I sticking around here for the foreseeable future, though, so if I have to stare at my computer, I’m going to do it with some serious eye candy: the Lanvin Sea Breeze Crystal Minaudiere. You can almost feel the wind coming in off the water, can’t you?

June Birthday Gift Guide: Alexandrite Handbags

Our marketing director Hilary and every other May baby has a right to be angry with me. I totally skipped over your birthday month and didn’t give you an assortment of emerald handbags for your birthday gift guide. Somehow, I will make it up to you, but for now let me get back onto track for our June birthday girls.

June’s birthday is Alexandrite, a gem that exhibits a plethora of different colors depending on the viewing direction. For our purposes, it is a purplish hue, and for that I found nine bags for our June Birthday Gift Gift. I love a good purple bag as I consider the color beautiful while also being wearable year-round and neutral enough to work with most outfits.

Marc Jacobs Resort 2013 is bright and shiny (and available for pre-order now!)

I’m not sure why, but I always love Marc Jacobs’ resort accessories the best. Maybe because they’re less conceptual and theme-heavy than those from the spring and fall runway shows, making them more closet-friendly to the average customer? Maybe because the cheery, playful feeling of early spring fits well with Jacobs’ signature whimsy? Maybe a little of Column A and a little of Column B?

Whatever the cause, bags like the ones from Marc Jacobs Resort 2013 almost always catch my fancy. Those of you who aren’t fans of Jacobs’ collaboration with Yayoi Kusama at Vuitton will want to look away from the polka dotted offerings, which are indeed the weakest of the group, but there’s plenty else to take your attention. My favorites are the looks in rubberized leather, which is a material that combines exceptional durability with ultrasaturated matte color for an incredibly bold statement accessory. The red one? I’m dying over here. Luckily, you and I both can pre-order the collection until June 19 via Moda Operandi. Of course, we also have all the pictures after the jump.

Your first look at the Louis Vuitton Fall 2012 ad campaign

It’s that time of year again: time for ad campaigns! Twice a year, brands roll out images meant to sell their ideas of their collections to the public, and because handbags and accessories are so critically important to the financial wellbeing of most designers, they often figure prominently in the ads. That, of course, is relevant to our interests.

Perhaps the best illustration of that phenomenon is Louis Vuitton, whose ads are often so chock full of bags, sunglasses, scarves and other accessories that it’s hard to get a solid look at the clothes. That’s not as much the case in this first image from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2012 ad campaign, but you do get a healthy dose of leopard print front and center.

Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton: All The Accessories

By now, all of you are probably familiar with Infinitely Kusama, the collection of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and accessories that Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has designed for French luxury powerhouse Louis Vuitton. We showed you all of the collection’s full-sized handbags last week, but we know full well that handbag lovers, particularly LV handbag lovers, don’t just get excited about bags; there’s a whole world of accessories to go along with them, from leather wallets and agendas to scarves to sunglasses.

It’s clear by the sheer volume of pieces in Infinitely Kusama that Vuitton expects this collection to be a hit in the vein of past collaborations with Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami. The company allowed her to speckle nearly every type of piece that it makes, including a really fun watch that I’d love to have in my collection. If you dig the Kusama look but aren’t sure that a full-on handbag would find a useful spot in your bag collection, a cuff or key pouch might be exactly what you need. Check out all the accessories after the jump, and if you’d like to see the Kusama x Vuitton shoes, head over to our sister site TalkShoes. Most of the collection is expected to hit stores July 10, with the bags following in October.
