Lately, it’s become trendy for fashion designers to eschew what seasonal fashion traditionally means. Brands are still releasing collections based on the industry’s seasonal delivery calendar, but instead of those collections being totally distinct from what comes before and after, the creative heads of massive international brands have instead taken to “wardrobing,” and Valentino was among the very first to adopt the tactic.
“Wardrobing” has more of a focus on how a brand’s clients might wear or think about clothes than on an individual season’s artistic or conceptual inspiration; the collections share more aesthetic DNA and have more commonalities over time, and as seasons pass, the designer creates an expansive vision of how a particular woman might dress rather than looking to a new muse every couple seasons. Valentino’s Pre-Fall 2016 lookbook, which surfaced late last week, is an excellent example of the practice but to beautiful use.
Valentino’s aesthetic in accessories beyond is, by now, well known. The brand’s pieces are incredibly feminine, often heavily detailed and generally ethereal-feeling in some way. (As much as a bag can be ethereal, anyway.) This season, Valentino shrunk both its B Rockstud and My Rockstud bags down into pint-size versions with prints and embellishments that felt like worthy companions to the intricate clothes.
Take a look at the lookbook images below; these styles should hit stores in early summer.
Hmmm. can’t see the bags. models’ hands completely covering them.
These are really beautiful bags. #6 and #9 are especially gorgeous.
The bags are works of art, very beautiful! A new satchel also…I like it!
These are like luxurious iPhone 6 plus cases! So small.
I thought this is an advert for manicures not bags.
Gosh, look at those hands completely covering the bags.
But I’m sure they are nice.
Valentino does prints and embroideries in a sophisticated and meticulous that it looks nice and “worth the price tags”. Other brands (even some luxury brands, not naming names) do embroidery/embelishment or prints in such a juvenile way it looks more like arts&crafts day for mom&kids at the local dollar store than big brands.
Valentino’s designs and executions are more hits than misses. Only that at least for advertising purposes they make bags that are bigger than hands.
Amazing post. Thank you for sharing 🙂
I’m chiming in again –
Absolutely LOVING the clothing. Probably cost as much as a car.
