S.W.O.R.D makes a prototypical everyday bag in chic charcoal leather

Every now and then, a heated debate will pop up in the Hermes section of our PurseForum over whether or not an Hermes Birkin is age-appropriate for a woman in her 20s. I see no problem with it personally, but when I saw the S.W.O.R.D Oversized Satchel, I couldn’t help but think that this is what a Birkin re-imagined for a young, hip, urban girl would look like.

The bag has a similar basic structure to the Hermes legend, but it’s far more slouchy and rough around the edges than anything the French megabrand would ever consider manufacturing. And that’s kind of why I like it – this design shows perfectly how two bags with several similar elements can go in wildly disparate directions.

I love chewy leather and dark grey anything, so this bag’s place in my heart was almost pre-determined. And really, what is there not to like about it? This design is the kind that you can carry all weekend and then in to work on Monday without skipping a beat, and at 18 inches wide, you could even stash a few files and a small laptop in there. And since the designers chose to eschew most obvious trends in favor of making a solid, basic bag, you could carry this piece for as long as you want. Buy through ShopBop for $660.
