Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2015 Bags are the Brand’s Best in Years

At Louis Vuitton, handbags are king. The brand might now make full lines of ready-to-wear, outerwear, shoes, accessories and jewelry, but if the bags are selling, none of that other stuff really matters. With the new bags that debuted as part of the brand’s Fall 2015 collection this morning, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Many of the new shapes in this collection were petite trunks, some of which were customizable; they looked like they’d be perfect home decor objects instead of something that someone might actually carry. Vuitton’s ardent fans have long collected the brand’s trunks to display in their homes, and these smaller, non-monogram versions would be perfect for that. I can see the Instagrams now.

The functional bags were also a treat. Most of them felt fresh and young without sacrificing the sophistication for which Nicolas Ghesquiere is known, and although the stone-studded ones were a little challenging for my taste, the rest of the group more than made up for it. A particular favorite was the white Alma, stamped with a big version of the brand’s logo–somehow, it felt worlds away from the logo bags for which the brand is known.

The only bag I liked was slide 28 – the rest yuck. The big trunks are ridiculous but I could see them being used as some form of home decor object.

Khaya

I love the smaller trunks! Also the foldover clutches are cute too

FairGrape

I must say that there are only a handful of bags I find myself truly drooling over. But this collection had me lusting over more than one bag. And the studded ones are just out of the world (when I don’t particularly like studded bags)! Can someone please tell me when are they going to start selling these? TIA.

Amanda Mull

Generally, fall collections hit stores during the last half of summer!

Lori

Bag #19 is amazing!

Sofia

The flap bags are OK… I don’t like how they styled the “LV”. The studs on the bag seem like a very random design… I dunno what their significance is, nor does it make the bag look like high end luxury.

Kelly Rae

I’m digging slide #5 and slide #34

Moesha75

Loved 30 out of the 36 which is a lot. So happy they minimized the monogram from their last show where it was everywhere.

Kate

Pass

Charlie_Lewis

They are nice but we have seen something very similar before. To be honest, the last time they have wowed me was the F/W 2011 when Marc Jacobs brought the “fetish” theme into fashion. That was the best collection I could remember

hectorrobertocontrerasmiranda

I kind of agree, my desire and fascination for that collection is now, literally a full obsesion. I mean, the furriness of those pulsion lockits makes feel feel things nothing else does. I really don’t like the way the ideas translated into the clothes in that or many (way to many) of Marc’s collections but God the the facelift he approved on those lockits via Fetish is wonderful. Now, back to this collection the case in slide 35 is gorgeous but slide 24 leaves me wondering what kind of bag is under all that fur.

Lovebags

These bags are overdesigned and wouldn’t have lasting power.

geenak

Those are some damn ugly bags. Maybe I shouldn’t complain about the girl chanel because it could always be worse.

Sparkletastic

Hahaha! Yes, these are ugly. Just because something has a high price tag doesn’t mean it’s attractive or fashionable as these bags prove.

rodzep17

What’s the name of the clutch with the key on the lock? So amazing!

mary

yes. toolbox is in. now we can all be stylish plumber

Suzanne

i only like #6. the rest all look kind of like prada aka really outdated/90s/ugly. too wacky for LV.

louch

I was very excited when I read the article; very disappointed when I saw the photos.

Or

Sorry Amanda – are we looking at the same pics? Tastes certainly differ but it pains me to see when you give a positive review to something which is, quite obviously, a rather mediocre collection. No offence meant, of course

Zezza

Well this is Nicholas tweeking on Vuitton …. Love them all as they are different and modern. To be honest this is just what LV needed …. Modernisation on the old classic. those mini trunks are just devine.

Louise

I have never been a fan of LV, especially their monogram bags, however #28 ist quite nice and might look even better when the leather handles have gained some patina.

AAAA

I was really hoping I was going to like these, but they are incredibly ugly.

PapaDontPreach

Wow, these bags are dreadful. So hideous! I wouldn’t carry these if they were free.

missarewa

Slides 3, 16 and 17. I’m ready to do some buying!

FashionableLena

I love a good embellished bag, but these are too overdone. I like the textured fabrication of slide 36, but did we need the leather embroidery over it? The clutched would look much better without the stones and the little chains hanging off of them. Between LV, MJ, and Chanel, the contemporary and second tier designers are starting to look better and better. Gucci is about the only luxury brand that has caught my interest.

Azaleafox

I couldn’t agree more, Gucci has a couple of bags that I want for this season

klynneann

I’ll take slide #4 and maybe #28, but the rest leave a lot to be desired. ..

Joules

So disappointed ???? maybe 1 bag

Tinker's Realm!

Looks Gawdy/Tacky outside of one or two-Not for me this Season!

Imgoingbroke

I’d totally wear #16 & #17. Big fan of the fold-over clutch.

Guest

I kinda like this “birds popped on my bag” look, you can wear very minimalist and spice up your outfit with this bag. but I’m sure I won’t like the price tag. And some contemporary designer will soon flood the market with similar flap bags.

Mary Smith

Wow these new bags are going to be really expensive. 5 figures for most of them.

Joules

Bring back Marc Jacobs…..

Immodest Goddess

I have to disagree. While I’ve liked and been excited by the new designs from LV, these have done nothing for me. And I dislike the new logo!

Gia

Love LV.
Not into this collection.

Christofle

#23 Has me drooling…looks like I might have to call my SA to get ahold of one for me. It’ll be my 1st LV bag in years (since my Antheia one).

Fran

Please bring Marc Jacobs back!!! Louis Vuitton is not just about slapping an L V logo with embellishments. I am a longtime collector of LV show bags and it is evident that this new designer DOES NOT POSSESS the Louis vuitton Vision needed to satisfy the legacy of this one of a kind brand. I hope that all the negative comments are taken to heart because it truly pains me that this is what has become of my beloved Vuitton!

Gigi

I bought yesterday from LV on 57th the most beautiful bag! I was actually returning a gift and unexpected shopped after the wonderful sales person showed me the new canvas treatment. This bag is from the Prefall 2015 collection.
