Check Out Louis Vuitton’s Brand New Cruise 2016 Bags, Straight from the Runway

It’s hard to be unimpressed with anything that happens at golden hour in Palm Springs, which is exactly when the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2016 show took place last week. Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquiere brought the spectacle to the West Coast, mining the region’s color scheme and desert palms for a collection full of lovely accessories for cool girls and sophisticated women alike. After all, you can’t fly Catherine Deneuve out for the occasion without offering something for the grown ups.

Ghesquiere’s reimagining of Vuitton walks the line between trendy and sophisticated particularly well; Cruise 2016 includes both lightweight monogram backpacks and a brand new leather tote that will undoubtedly be compared to the Birkin, but which feels more modern and less fussy. In fact, the fussiness of fashion was almost entirely absent, and in its place were bags that I could imagine a whole range of women carrying with joy.

Below, check out all the handbags from the collection.

i love these new bags their simple chic elegant the colors go well, its not a birkin, there is no straps or flap, this is a tradition box tote bag with a 2 slot divider with zipper and i love the box trunks so fun, the other bags i don’t care for i do like the back pack and clutches

Hudhudaya

I would just say to those who don’t like the bag ” sour grapes”.

Emily

Birkin? This is all I see when I look at these new Vuitton bags…proving yet again, ghesquire is nothing more then a over-rated and unoriginal thief

Jerri R

OMGGGGG I was about to say that some of these bags remind me of MK too! LOL

Edia

its a stylized steamer bag.

Yoshi1296

It’s funny because all Michael Kors does is copy too!

FashionableLena

Those handbags with the locks on them look like cheap knock-offs that street vendors sell. I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but I like the monogram backpacks and the twist clutches. Those clutches are actually on my LV wishlist.

Sofia

I like the look of 1 and 32. Too bad it’s a style that’s been done by other designers already. The embossed petit Malle in 3 looks nice.

missarewa

Oh dear! Louis Vuitton is serious about these 6k+ ugly bags 🙁

JYK98

Yeah, most of them look like “Whee, look at me!” bags, and not in a good way.

Mary Smith

The backpacks and one of the trunks looks good the rest look like Chanel / Hermes knockoffs. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I miss Marc Jacobs.

Elisa

Love train cases!!!!

Cherie

My wallet just took a sigh of relief.

Jerri R

LOLOL

Kageyworld

I like the rings. The spiked one is cool – and maybe dangerous?? The one with the LVs looks like a plaster (Band Aid)

Firdaus Hilmy

I’ve seen too many locks and keys on bags.. Can we just get over it? It’s too mainstream.. Hermes knockoff

Esther Kapteyn Senior

In France you need locks on your purse to many pickpockets. Are ther .

kemilia

I like slide 17, and some of the rings. And I agree that LV and many other makers are copying the Birkin look shamelessly.

Tiffany

31 is my fav! Not a fan of how they are looking similar to Hermes and Chanel though..
I love the little square trunk ones!!

Realist

I don’t like any of these! HOORAY for SAVINGS!!!

Yoshi1296

I can’t wait to pre-order the twist bag in slide 12! I love the green print with the monogram!

I don’t see anything related to Hermes or Chanel. The diamond quilting is inspired by the interior of an old famous LV trunk that was released before the Chanel bag I think.

ellavanw

LV already copied the Kelly with the Capucines, so I guess it was time to copy the Birkin. Had LV omitted the lock, it wouldn’t be such an obvious ripoff, but the lock hanging off the clasp puts it over the edge, as far as I am concerned.

Shellie

The new LV on slide 27 etc is ugly, what were they thinking on so many details.

Alexander

Seems like I’m the only one enjoying the reinvigorated energy at Vuitton!

Charlie

Definitely see a lot of HERMÈS in the collection, where has creativity gone? All of these keys and locks and studs have taken the beauty away from the bags, far too noisy and unnecessary.

Not a fan of those “boring (design) and loud (look at me!!)” backpacks, it almost feels like he is throwing those in to make up the number of bags to show in the runway. I expect so much more from Nicolas Ghesquièr

lavinia

No way. They don’t say “luxury” at all, the lock is completely out of the brand, they look cheap and frankly speaking very boring. I do not recognize LV anymore.

MrsO3

I say this as huge Hermes fan but they do not own locks or two handled totes for all eternity. I can’t see enough of the side profile but I would say that these are much less derivative than the Sac du Jour is of the Birkin. There’s a zipper and the sides don’t compress, no top flap etc.

I think the collection is chic, cohesive and perfect for resort. I do not care for the new large LV hardware but I think some of the prints are very wearable and cool. I love the Palm Trees in black and white. I think the train cases are great but wish they didn’t have a mini bag parasite attached to them. And that alligator Petite Malle, swoon!

I think the backpack will be a huge seller, I would wear one ironically and I’m sure many will snap it up for function and the logos. I’m not a big LV customer but I LOVE those rings and will be going to meet a SA so I can find out more about those!

Gabriela R.

I totally respect all fans of Louis Vuitton, but honestly this collection looks like Hermes had a bad sex night with Chanel and these bags are their unwanted kids.

Jerri R

You’re too generous. I was thinking Walmart was in on the said debauchery 😉

Unapologetic

I see a little of JLo’s famous Versace dress in those unwanted kids.

I don’t want one but as someone not particularly devoted to Hermes, LV or Chanel, I don’t think any company owns the lock, quilting or the curved edge design. It looks like a bag with typical bag design elements.

Jenny

EW no thanks ill stick to Dior.

Azaleafox

If the backpack isn’t too pricey, then i will go for it, I love the monogram canvas, but as for those leather bags….Not a Birkin, but more of a Kelly. I guess my leather bag will be coming from Fendi this year.

Rafaela

What about this new LV thing? yikes!
so no right.

Imgoingbroke

That is a terribly dated looking bag. Ughh
