Considering the relatively short amount of time Alessandro Michele has been at Gucci’s creative helm, it’s incredible how quickly he has built a new creative world for the the brand. Like Michele’s collections before it, Gucci Pre-Fall 2016 is rooted in Gucci’s long leather goods heritage, but it’s a lot more fun, youthful and energetic than “heritage” usually implies in fashion.
In addition to Gucci’s presentation late last week, the brand also released an extensive lookbook of the collection, which gives us the best look at its upcoming handbags. The bags continue on the foundation Michele has built, with traditional shapes and structures spun out in seemingly endless variation with appliqués, embroidery, beading and colorblocking.
Check out the bags from the lookbook below; you can expect to see them arriving in stores this spring. You can also shop Gucci’s current collection via Gucci.com.
Wow, I was just getting to love Gucci but I think that ends here.
Another miss for Gucci. This is the equivalent to a Christmas ugly sweater (pre-fall edition)
I love these, except for the ones with hearts and stars.
These feel very costume-y, but as someone who wears very basic outfits, I sort of adore them all!
I have more Gucci bags than any other designer (by far) but these don’t appeal to me. I hope Gucci will also offer their usual sophisticated classic bags. These are not for me!
I don’t know about you guys but I love these!
I love #3! That bag has my heart!
Reminds me of The Royal Tenenbaums!
Slide 4 is just gorgeous!
Uh oh… Starting to look like Coach. “Let’s borrow iconic design elements from all the other designers and call it ‘new'”.
I’ll have to sit out Gucci for a few seasons. Major bummer. I love Gucci.
No way. While brands like the Row, Victoria Beckham simplifly and have the right to remain in the “Luxury” Gucci with this new designer is badly falling apart.
Too much like Anya Hindmarch. Pass.
None of these beats the Dionysus bags from this season!
YES PLEASE! I like them all but LOVE #4 and #15. Lovely bags, Gucci.
Never was a huge Gucci fan, but I love these bags, They’re a gorgeous, serious yet playful. Love a bag that doesn’t take itself so seriously.
TERRIBLE! i finally give up on Gucci
Gucci Disco bag is far superior to any these!
Gucci had been SO BLAND for so long, it’s about time they made some fun bags. I was initially horrified by Alessandro Michele’s first collection but now that I get where he’s going, I can see he’s trying to pick up a new, younger, chicer customer. And it’s probably in the brand’s best interest to weed out their old, boring clients and appeal more to the fashion crowd. The brand became too overexposed and mainstream and these bags are a welcome change. That cat sweater really caught my eye, though.
