JCrew-Edie-Attache-Tote

The J.Crew Edie Bag has been a fan favorite since its debut. Not only does the bag have a chic, Mad Men-era retro feel to it without being costume-y, but it’s also a solid everyday bag priced at less than $300, which is a combination that’s difficult to duplicate elsewhere. J.Crew’s style profile has risen sharply over the last five years, and it seems as though the company’s bags have stepped in line with that new tradition quite quickly.

The J.Crew Edie Attache Tote is the newest edition to the line, and in my mind, it’s also a significant design improvement. Something about the finish of the original Edie meant that it never ranked too highly on my personal must-have list, but this sleek tote version ticks all the necessary boxes. Plus, who can resist this shade of green?

Now that I think about it, I don’t have a bright green bag in my collection. I have hunter green and lime green, but a true, preppy green like this eludes me. There’s not better time to add a shade like this than spring, and on a classic, sharp, somewhat conservative shape like the Eddie Attache, the green doesn’t look too trendy. Plus, for less than $300, I doubt I’ll find a better option anywhere. You can buy this bag for $288 via Net-a-Porter in green or via J.Crew in three other colors.

A bargain is not necessarily a good thing.People sometimes want to achieve what seems unattainable, rare. Rareness is expensive. This is the whole concept behind a Birkin as an example   and also goes for an extravagant color. It needs to be something very special. I have one bag  ”vert bengale ”  and wear it with jeans, black, with everything, I am truly in love with her, I assure you it goes a long way.

I think that bags in this price range have a very different goal than bags in the Birkin price range do, though, not to mention that not all customers have the same ideas about what kind of place bags should have in their lives and budgets. I don’t think anyone who’s looking for something rare and unattainable is going to look for it at J.Crew, and I don’t think that’s what the company seeks to provide.

Amanda, you have a point there, my apologies for my unilateral view.

I, for one, absolutely LOVE a bargain! (Bargain meaning an exquisite bag at an attainable price.) I’m so pleased to see more displays of beautiful, but less expensive bags.  Even though I can afford to splurge more than I used to, I’ve found that I get much more pleasure from finding something gorgeous at a lower price.  That way I can truly enjoy my bags and use them without worrying excessively about anything happening to it or worse getting mugged!
I’ve been continually impressed by J. Crew’s bags.

I love J. Crew bags and shoes. Most are made in Italy and use good quality leather. I have been looking for a light bag for spring and summer, and I love the Edie in white with black trim.
