The first couple days back at work from a holiday weekend are always rough, but today, we have something that may soothe your soul just a little bit: Chanel‘s new Metiers d’Art Paris in Rome 2017 bags hit stores today, and we have the collection’s lookbook, which includes nearly four dozen bag and US pricing info for all but a couple. (Okay, so the prices probably won’t make this week any easier, but the pictures will.)
As with all of Chanel’s Metiers d’Art collections, this one is themed around the place where the debut show was held. In this case, that means that some of the bags are theoretically supposed to have a bit of an Italian inflection, but more than that, the collection seems to recall a particular era of Italian film. (Except for the Carrara marble-print Bottle Clutch, though. That’s just Italian in general.)
The bags are, of course, totally beautiful and many are wonderfully detailed, and in that regard, they really don’t need any explanation. Check out the full set from the lookbook below.
Soo expensive. With that said the Chevron drawstring is really cute in Black.

I saw a TPF’r reveal the Boy with top handle bags. I had talked myself down from buying one and here you go showing them again. ???? LOL! Those bags are stunning!!! The first Boys I’ve seriously considered.
I’m a sucker for a great saddle bag and really like the messenger. Not sure I like them enough to buy. But I like!
And I still can’t like the smooth bags. I think they need to get different designs that are smooth – not just take the quilts off of existing designs because they look naked. I do like the lizard but honestly they look like “any other flap”. There are so many great flaps out there I don’t think they compete well – especially for what is undoubtedly a crazy price tag.
Not a fan of the distressed leather on the chevron flaps. Too much money for that look.
I liked the drawstring bags, and number 13 is my favorite of the bunch. The messenger, #29, is stunning.
But NOTHING beats that pleated Boy, number 31. I don’t even like the Boy bag, but I would gladly hand over my money for one of those. Methinks that those will be scarce. It’s gorgeous.

I like a lot of the collection, although if I could pick only one, it would be photo 31, the black and white pleated boy bag. I thought number 33 — the python drawstring bag — was intriguing and would like to see it in person before giving it a thumb’s up or down. I liked the velvet boy bag, but might have preferred a dark green or dark blue instead of red to go with the black. And number 39 — the Chanel Flap with the chain top handle also is appealing, would like to see that one in person as well. .
Question for PB: what size are these bags, esp the boy bags? Small, medium (old or new) etc? Thanks! And are most of these available in lamb and caviar?

Valentino red!!! When you’re in Valentino’s hood, you gotta pay respects. I like the mini Coliseum clasps on the bowling bags. Nice touch and not too twee.

I’m liking the blue drawstring. I also like the clasp and metal strap on the lizard bag but I wouldn’t buy lizard or snake. I have a gorgeous black flap bag from autumn winter 2016 with dark silver industrial “cc’s” and chunky chain handle. I love it!! I’ve never been keen on “boy” for some reason.

1, 2, 19, 31, and that Pleated Boy! I’m kinda digging the no-quilt Flaps but I’m so used to the quilts that these are a bit off-putting.

I wonder how big the drawstring bag in photo 16 is? I love the color and hardware. I hope it’s rather large because I sure could see me buying it.

The Chanel show was GORGEOUS…I love the clothes, the shoes, the bags!
That beautiful suede drawstring in beige is luscious, and I adore the 2.55–very elegant.
The plain 2.55s in 3,4,and 5 are stunning. REALLY refreshing to get away from the quilting. The pleated Boy (31) and the evening bag (44) are showstoppers.
That Boy with handle is absolutely stunning

Ohh where’s the thread?!
What a beautiful collection – with only a couple of exceptions, no silly gimmicks or cheap tricks; yippee!
Finally – a Chanel collection where 95% of the bags are completely wearable!
Im sort of underwhelmed, except that exquisite chevron pleated boy
That bag stopped me right in my tracks!

I find python hideous as a material for a bag

Most of the others look old fashioned to me.
