Most people think that when we go to Fashion Week, we’re mainly looking at the clothes going down the runway. In reality, Fashion Week has become just as much about what people outside of the shows wear and carry as what’s going on inside, and I love seeing all the bags on display. While there were Chanel and Celine bags galore, a different bag and brand stood out to me: the Jason Wu Daphne Bag.
In fact, the Jason Wu Daphne Bag was one of few bags that caught my attention at all – I saw it on some of the most fashionably dressed women and on the arms of models, from Daphne Groeneveld (who inspired the bag and its name) to Karlie Kloss. And the attention is totally deserved – the Daphne is a stand out, the design is different yet functional and the lines are beautiful.
Fashionista.com had the opportunity to interview Jason Wu and ask him about his Daphne bag, to which he said, “The Daphne bag is my take on a ’40s frame bag, modernized by a much softer structure and a chic relaxed attitude. I love that it can work as either a dressed up or dressed down bag. I met Daphne Groeneveld a few seasons ago when she first arrived in New York and just fell in love with her. Daphne’s striking, classic with a twist look reminds me so much of this bag that I decided to name it after her.”
