The Cannes Film Festival is such a funny thing. On the one hand, it’s a yacht convention masquerading as a film festival to give brands a nebulous reason to fly a bunch of supermodels to the South of France to parade around in evening gowns and borrowed jewelry; it’s kind of gauche and outdated, even if you’re being diplomatic. On the other hand, I would absolutely die of happiness to go to Cannes. I cannot begin to reconcile these two ideas in my brain, but they both exist there.
Anyway, we all know what happens at Cannes: everyone whips out their best designer sundresses, strappy sandals and (most importantly) spring bags to stroll up and down the Croisette, paparazzi happily snapping away at celebrities from the US, France and beyond. We’ve sorted through all the photos out of Cannes’s 70th annual film festival so far (and there are a lot of them), and below, you’ll find dozens of the best bag on the festival’s most famous attendees.
Arizona Muse
We’ve already spotted our first supermodel! (There are gonna be a lot of supermodels.) Shop Smythson via Barneys
Ashley Benson
Ashley moved from LA to New York after wrapping Pretty Little Liars late last year, and Cannes seems like an ideal place to rub elbows on vacation when you’re ready to start the movie phase of your career in earnest. Balenciaga no longer makes this Le Dix bag, but shop the brand’s other selections via Balenciaga
Ashley Benson
She hit a lot of the best parties and premieres. Shop the Saint Laurent Kate Monogramme Bag via Saks ($1,650)
Bella Hadid
It wouldn’t be an event without a Hadid; extra points for the lovely, luxe Dior Alligator Diorever Clutch.
Bianca Balti
Dolce & Gabbana loves to outfit its countrywomen for events like Cannes. Shop the Dolce & Gabbana Lucia Bag via MATCHESFASHION.COM ($1,886)
Caroline Receveur
Caroline is a French fashion blogger, and she and her Valentino Rockstud Spikes Bag were at Cannes to unveil her makeup collaboration with L’Oreal, who is a big sponsor of the festival’s surrounding parties and events. Shop the Valentino Rockstud Spikes Bag via MATCHESFASHION.COM ($2,395)
Deepika Padukone
Deepika is a Bollywood star poised to become a big name in the West, and her handbag is the lovely, casual Chloé Kurtis Bag. Shop the Chloé Kurtis Bag via Bluefly ($1,384)
Doutzen Kroes
What I really appreciate about Cannes is the free-range supermodels, all toting beautiful bags and headed to no place in particular. We think this bag Doutzen is carrying is Alaïa, but we can’t find exact confirmation. Shop Alaïa Bags via Net-a-Porter
Elle Fanning
Elle Fanning is basically the walking embodiment of the Miu Miu girl, down to this Denim Tote she carried to arrive at the Martinez Hotel for the festival. Shop Miu Miu via MATCHESFASHION.COM
Elle Fanning
Elle’s entire aesthetic existence is Miu Miu. Shop the Miu Miu Rose Shoulder Bag via mytheresa.com ($1,850)
Elsa Zylberstein
Elsa’s a French actress, and if you’re a longtime PB reader, you’re already well aware of how much French actresses love Chanel. Shop Chanel via Vestiaire Collective
Emily Ratajkowski
It’s unclear who makes Emily’s bag, but there appears to be a tiny golden lizard riding atop it. Maybe he knows.
Emma Thompson
With Cannes, it’s easy to forget the event is ostensibly about film until you catch a capital-A Actor like Emma Thompson, seen here exiting a yacht with a little Stella McCartney bag. Shop the Stella McCartney Mini Falabella Bag for $935 via farfetch.com
Eva Herzigova
Eva’s exotic bag is gorgeous, but we’re not sure where it came from.
Hailey Baldwin
It wouldn’t be an event without some Instagirls and their bags, like Hauley Baldwin with her itty bitty Antigona. Shop the Givenchy Mini Antigona Bag via Nordstrom ($1,790)
Izabel Goulart
Model Izabel is one of Fendi’s certified favorites; here she is with the brand’s new Kan I Bag. Shop the Fendi Kan I Bag via farfetch.com ($1,700)
Jasmine Sanders
Bulgari usually doesn’t seem to go out of its way to place its bags on celebs and influencers, but for Cannes, it makes an exception, like with model Jasmine Sanders and her Bulgari Serpenti Bag. Shop Bulgari Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain’s first bag from her tour of the film festival isn’t even in stores yet: it’s the brand new Givenchy Infinity Hobo. Shop Givenchy Bags via Nordstrom
Jessica Chastain
Oddly enough, I think the first time I noticed the Longchamp Paris Premier Bag was last year at Cannes. Longchamp loves a celeb-filled film fest, I suppose. Shop the Longchamp Paris Premier Bag via Neiman Marcus ($1,620)
Jessica Chastain
The wild thing about Jessica Chastain is she’s so beautiful and regal that she can pull off basically any weird bag she wants, even this odd version of the Louis Vuitton City Steamer. Shop the Louis Vuitton City Steamer via Louis Vuitton ($4,250)
Jourdan Dunn
I don’t know who makes Jourdan’s clutch, but she’s too pretty to exclude based on that.
Julianne Moore
God bless Julianne, dressed like a New Yorker even in Cannes, right down to her black Céline Trio Bag. Shop Céline bags via Vestiaire Collective
Kendall Jenner
We saw Kendall carrying this same Hermès Haut a Courroies on the way to Cannes several days ago, and now it looks like she’s sticking with it as her go-to.
Kourtney Kardashian
Kourtney and Kendall appear to be the only Kardashian-Jenners to make the trip to the South of France this year. Here, Kourtney was exiting a yacht with an Edie Parker clutch. Shop the Edie Parker Jean Clutch via Neiman Marcus ($895)
Lena Gercke
You probably don’t recognize Lena, but she’s a German model and host of Austria’s Next Top Model. Shop Bulgari Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Liliana Nova
You might not recognize Liliana either, if you’re in the US, but again, that’s alright: she’s a Ukrainian-German model. Also, that’s a Prada bag she’s got there. Shop the Prada Cahier Bag via Saks ($2,660)
Lottie Moss
We’re not sure who made Lottie’s little studded bag, but perhaps one of you do.
Majda Sakho
Majda’s got the right idea with her Birkin: if you’ve got a bag with light handles, wrapping them in a pretty scarf is a good way to avoid wear.
Mary J. Blige
We haven’t spotted Mary or her Hermès Birkin at any Cannes festivities yet, but we know she’s there because the paps got her at the airport.
Naomi Campbell
Naomi and Azzedine Alaïa have always been fashion industry allies; she frequently carries the designer’s bags, like this Fringed Bucket Bag. Shop Alaïa Bags via Net-a-Porter
Natasha Poly
We suspect, in this moment, that Natasha Poly wishes she had gone with a sensible mom bag instead of a tiny, handheld Givenchy Obsedia Mini Hobo. Shop Givenchy Bags via Nordstrom
Salma Hayek
When you’re the Gucci boss’s wife, you get to carry all the Gucci you want. Shop the Gucci Marmont Shoulder Bag via Gucci ($2,300)
Sara Sampaio
Another model, another Bulgari Serpenti Bag. Cannes specializes in this. Shop Bulgari Bags via Vestiaire Collective
Sofia Richie
Sofia Richie’s bag is eye-catching, but we haven’t spotted it on any retailers’ websites—anyone know what it is?
Sveva Alviti
Sveva is an Italian model and actress, which we didn’t know before right now, but Karl Lagerfeld sure did: that’s a not-yet-released Fendi bag in her hand. Shop Fendi via MATCHESFASHION.COM
Talia Storm
I wasn’t familiar with Talia, but she’s an 18-year-old Scottish singer who’s apparently recently broken up with Brooklyn Beckham. Shop the Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote via Louis Vuitton ($1,340)
Thylane Blondeau
If the name Thylane Blondeau sounds familiar to you, it’s because she was a somewhat notorious child model that several magazines got in trouble for over-sexualizing. She’s now reached the ripe ol’ age of 16 and she’s carry a MICHAEL Michael Kors tote at Cannes. Shop the MICHAEL Michael Kors Mercer Tote via Bloomingdale’s ($228)
Tina Kunakey
Model Tina Kunakey was one of our absolute favorites for Cannes street style. She’s only 19, so you can expect to see a lot more of her soon, we’d expect. She carried her embellished Gucci Dionysus for most of her appearances. Shop the Gucci Dionysus Bag via Gucci ($5,900)
Tina Kunakey
She just looked great the whole time. Shop the Gucci Dionysus Bag via Gucci ($5,900)
Victoria Silvstedt
Victoria Silvstedt might as well be a Cannes mascot; she’s there every year, partying and being generally blonde and rich. Shop Alaïa Bags via Net-a-Porter
Victoria Silvstedt
Viktoria Swarovski
Shop the Valentino Lock Bag via MATCHESFASHION.COM ($2,145)
Xenia Tchoumitcheva
It seems fitting to close out this peek into Cannes style with an international influencer carrying a Bulgari Serpenti Bag. Shop Bulgari Bags via Vestiaire Collective
