Bottega Veneta Spring 2017 Celebrated the Brand’s 50th Anniversary with Both Women’s and Men’s Bags

Bottega Veneta doesn’t often debut brand new handbag designs, and when it does, it’s usually not on the runway. That means the brand’s Spring 2017 show, marking Bottega Veneta’s 50th anniversary, was a particular treat to the brand’s many dedicated fans: not only were there a bunch of new bags, but the lineup spanned both men’s and women’s collections.

For traditionalists, Bottega Veneta also included lots of old favorites along with the new pieces, like Knot Clutches, Rialto Shoulder Bags and Monaco Satchels. The juxtaposition of classic and new was in many ways the whole point of the show, spanning from details like the handbags to show-closing models Gigi Hadid and Lauren Hutton, who walked the runway arm-in-arm.

The new pieces were unmistakably BV, of course, but several of them skewed more structured and more hardware-adorned than the brand’s average. Check them all out, as well as the show’s men’s bags, below.

Begs are so different in a style, sizes, colours that it is hard to image all of them are from the same designer. But I like them. I could have all of them for different ocassions (evening, lunch, travel, afternoon, spring, fall, winter, dinner and more) and could use it years. Very interesting collection.

I love BV but almost nothing is calling my name (just #20 and 31). The styles are all over the place: Gucci-type embellishment, Dior/older Prada push lock, etc. I suspect they will be more appealing IRL.

I agree the designs are a little “all over the place” and most are not for me, but I think its important they move away from their reliance on the intrecciato to broaden their appeal. I like how the intrecciato is concept is interpreted in the metal surface of #42. Very successful design. I’d buy that.

#22 and #41 made me draw breath. They are so beautiful. So simple and striking at the same time.

Meh. To me they look like something you could find at ALDO for way cheaper. BV has never had the look of luxury like many of Luxe brands.

The red clutch Lauren Hutton is carrying in Pic 20 is the same one she carried in American Gigolo 26 years ago. I’m always torn about BV runway collections. But personally, my faves were 18, 22, 29, 30, 31 and the Knot clutches. I haven’t yet seen a knot clutch I wasn’t in love with.
