Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta Keeps Its Bags Simple and Super Chic for Resort 2018

The collection includes plenty of Bottega's signature intrecciato woven leather, but the new smooth bags are the stars of the show

We say it every season, but that’s because it’s so ceaselessly true: Bottega Veneta is not here to reinvent the wheel or themselves, it’s just here to make beautiful, luxurious, impeccably crafted leather bags that very much look like they were made by Bottega Veneta. There’s no gimmickry or stunts, just an old world sense of craft that makes for some of the world’s finest accessories. That’s as true for Bottega Veneta Resort 2018—the lookbook for which just debuted yesterday—as it ever has been.

What surprised me most about this collection is how much I liked the smooth leather pieces in it. You’ll still find plenty of intrecciato woven leather, and the neutral, earthy color palette is about as Bottega as it gets, but the exacting lines of the smooth, structured bags in the assortment felt like a solid step for a brand whose bags tend toward softness. Bottega has been leaning in this direction for several seasons now, and it’s nice to see that side of the brand’s look develop. Check out all the Resort 2018 lookbook images below.
