Throwback Thursday: Celebs and Their Mansur Gavriel Bags

It's hard to believe the brand's iconic bucket is nearly a decade old...

Cult-favorite indie brand Mansur Gavriel launched in 2012 with just two simple silhouettes, a Bucket Bag and a Tote Bag, with the goal of providing a well-crafted, beautifully made bag of quality leather that was simple and available at a reasonable price. Their brand signifier has always been simplicity, offering bags with no hardware, studs, or frills. The brand’s beloved Bucket Bag started making waves in 2013, and almost immediately it was seen on the shoulders of some of our favorite celebs, selling out instantaneously and leaving handbag lovers around the world itching to snag one of their own.

It’s always interesting, albeit a bit surprising, to see a celebrity carrying a bag from a contemporary brand. After all, why would they when they can afford the best of the best? Unless of course, they’ve got a genuine love for the brand. Mansur Gavriel’s success among the uber-famous is particularly notable for this reason. You usually only get this kind of saturation among stars when the bags in question are much more expensive. Today we’re taking a look back at the early aughts of Mansur Gavriel’s near decade in business and the celebs who loved MG from the very start.

Karlie Kloss’s Balenciaga bag is the best out of the bunch

That is true though

IMHO, Mansur Gavriel is a totally underrated brand. My consider my Small Tote a “power piece” for work with its head turning red interior. It makes me feel classy, feminine, and powerful. The detachable pouch is perfect to throw in my ID, some cash and my phone for lunch or drinks after work. It’s one my of my favorite bags.

I wanted a Mansur bucket bag so badly! I remember being online at a particular time in the que and hitting refresh over and over and so delighted when I got one! Sold it within months. The leather was so hard and it was so difficult to get in and out of. I just didn’t like. If the leather has changed since then I’d try it but in my opinion the Louie Vuitton petite noe is a better fit, not to mention some great primary colors.

Yeah I looked at it in person back in its heyday while it was somehow in stock, and… way too tough leather. I don’t mind the used look, but hard leather that looks scratched immediately as soon as you look at it? Pass…

I forgot about the scratches! Yes!! Looked terrible from the beginning!

I still have a couple MG bags. My most favorite is the canvas bucket. It has a double pocket that fits a phone perfectly. Haven’t used either in years.

I still love my black and cognac buckets. I use felt organizer inside and it is a great every day style, always get looks. Once I placed it next to the mannequin close to a purse area of the department store to try some jacket on and 3 girls approached to take a look and admire and wonder how they did not see this beauty anywhere. Lovely leather and patina on cognac.

I have the MG Lady Bag in a calf skin leather and it’s wearing very well. In fact in the last year I used it almost exclusively because it was a great cross body bag and with all the sanitizers I had to use everytime I came and went in a store I wanted to make sure I was handsfree. Never had any problems the few times that sanitizer got on the leather. I think it’s a classic style and a great bag that looks elegant but also casual and I often take on vacation.
