Rebecca Minkoff gets in on the haircalf trend

Haircalf is such a versatile bag trend that it’s only a matter of time before it makes its way around to more or less every designer on the face of the planet, and I for one couldn’t be happier. Not only does it provide texture without looking messy or too “furry,” but the presence of haircalf also often means that designers are willing to play with pattern, as with the Rebecca Minkoff Haircalf Boyfriend Mini Bag.

Something about the material just makes stripes, spots and animal prints seem so appropriate, and any way to get more print and texture into an outfit is a way that I approve.

The only parts of this bag that have me wavering a bit are the giant buckles and how they interact with the pattern and color scheme, but the more I look at it, the more I think I like it. This bag is big enough for everyday essentials as long as you don’t require a giant dayplanner or your laptop, and it’s just whimsical enough to work. Buy through ShopBop for $350.

Omg, I love it!!

This spotted haircalf line from RM is a total miss for me. These bags make me think of something Cruella Devile would carry…

Not a fan of fur or hair bags, including calf or horse… There’s something too graphic about this type of material, in my opinion. I’d prefer it in smooth leather with the polka dot motif printed or embossed. The design is kinda fun, especially with the oversized buckles.

Hmm agree with Kari – dalmations…

I don’t mind haircalf bags and own two. One by Be&D and one spectacular one by HH. But this one makes me uncomfortable. It looks like a dalmation was skinned to make this. Perhaps if it had been in a different color, or pattern, or perhaps with less hair calf (only as an accent strip) and more leather? Just type in “dalmation purse” on any search engine and you will see why I am not a fan. Sorry, it’s a miss for me.

Amanda, I’m on the fence with this one. I think it would be fabulous in another color.

Completely agree with Kari and Karin. This smacks too much of Cruella De Vil. (ipad)

Haha, I am loving the comments on dalmations and Cruella de Vil. I think this bag is cute and don’t mind the print, but the hardware is reminiscent of Michael Kors for me. (ipad)

Cindy

No. Not feeling it material-wise or style wise. (ipad)

Hideous. Complete and utter hideousness.
