What Are Your Fall Bag-Buying Plans?

We're now more than halfway through the year, are you still shopping your own closet only?

It’s July 1st, which means that today we’ve officially made it through half of 2020—wow! As we enter the 7th month of the year and the official start to summer is behind us, the countdown to fall begins. While it may seem a bit strange to start talking about fall just as the temperatures begin to rise, fashion lovers know that the hot weather means one thing: fall arrivals are on the horizon.

Earlier this week we took a look at bag pre-orders from some of our favorite brands like Prada, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and more. Though these bags won’t make it into our hands for a few months, it’s at this time when brands give us a better look at the details of their newest bags. Prior to pre-order season, consumers usually only get a glimpse of what’s to come for an upcoming season either via a brand’s runway shows and lookbooks, or via social media.

Once online retailers list bags for pre-order, would-be purchasers can get an in-depth look at a bag’s color options, dimensions, internal capacity and more. It’s these details that are crucial when deciding if a bag that catches your eye is functional enough to actually warrant a purchase. To sum it up, now is the time to start planning your fall bag buys. That is, if you plan to make a purchase this fall at all.

Earlier this year we asked what your handbag goals for 2020 were, and many of you discussed the idea of shopping your own closets, and whether it was foreshadowing what was to come this year, the act of appreciating (and using) what we already own has become more relevant than ever. With unemployment hitting an all-time high and businesses being forced to scale back on payroll, many will continue to reassess how they shop.

However as with any resolution or pact we make with ourselves, sometimes as time wears on we make exceptions to new rules, and as handbag lovers sometimes something comes along that we must have. So as we move into the second half of 2020 we want to know: are you on a bag-buying ban still or are you in the midst of easing up? Do you plan to make a purchase this fall?

I’ve been lucky enough to be out of harms way – I work in a field where business keeps growing despite corona and all other problems in the world. We’re all hard at work and there are no plans of making people redundant. I’m sorry for all the people feeling the financial hit and hope things will get better for them very soon!
I made a few well thought purchases in the last few months and now I’m concentrating on getting rid of all the extra bags, SLG and all other stuff I have in my closets.
I’m showing my old bags alot of love as well – one of my favorite summer bags is a Peak Performance canvas print tote I bought in 2002. It’s still as good as new and I use it often. Also, a Kipling hobo from ~2004 which I got preloved from my mum around 12 yrs ago has also seen a lot of action lately.

May I know what industry this is? Is this related to e-commerce?

Amazona

Yes – we provide services for many branches and one of the biggest is e-commerce. In Finland our job revolves around financial services like invoicing, payment control, reminding service and my employer also owns a large pay-after-delivery brand. Oh and we dabble with IT solutions as well. People still buy books, clothes, magazines, use pay tv etc, and pay-after-delivery and part payments are more popular than ever.

Sparky

None.

I looked at my 2020 wishlist which I always keep to 5 things only. I have bought a few things that aren’t on the wishlist. I only have one bag on the list which is the Burberry Small Banner Bag. I hesitated over the weekend in buying one, and it sold an hour later!
So, the hunt is back on.

macroblue

None for me either. I bought a couple wonderful bags and barely got to use them before the coronavirus shut everything down. I can’t wait until I can finally start going out for more than groceries again.

Veronica

None, although I would love a few. I have a closet full of beautiful, designer. bags that I can’t wear so why do I need another one? Sigh…

Maya

Changing jobs in the Fall so depending on where I land, I might celebrate with a Bottega cassette bag:)…and a Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso watch, that’s the extent of my list:)

VG

exactly situation 🙂

Mme Annie

On my wishlist is the LV Hina MM Galet. I hoped for the VAT – reduction here in Germany but apparently LV don´t pass it to their customers.
And, like Maya, I am looking for a watch, maybe a Tudor Black Bay.

Whitney

none. there’s no place to wear them. Am I supposed to bring a Birkin to my weekly grocery run? lol

Julia

I don’t go out… therefore this is a moot point.

On the bright side I’ve been using my other bags more and more ??

Nina

My collection is pretty much complete at this point, but I’m interested in trying out a ‘new’ Bottega Veneta style. Right now it’s a toss between the Cassette, the Pouch and the mini Jodie. I’m in no rush though,

gatoradder

I would love a mini jodie, too! I bought the shoulder bag last fall and LOVE it. Unfortunately, it hasn’t had much use recently.

Maria Mejia

Not buying any luxury bags at all for many years from this point on. Already have quite a few and will only consider new cheaper brands like Cult Gaia and Staud.

Irene

Buying plans for handbags should not exist for me , however, I find myself needing a boost from time to time, and handbags are the perfect momentary remedy for me. Even if I open up a new bag and carry my crap around the house in them.
I get So down with the state of the world Right now from every angle. This is my escape. I look forward to better days when I can carry them out in normal life.

Minnie

I would love to buy the Saint Laurent bag that I had originally planned to buy at the end of the year to congratulate myself for making a successful career transition to the travel industry.

Thanks to governments all over the world caving in to herd mentality and populist sentiments and imposing long lockdowns where we emerge worse than before (virus still around, economy and jobs no longer around), half of my colleagues have been asked to go and we were informed more cuts are in the offing. So while I do have healthy savings, I’m not in the right frame of mind to buy any bag this year, not when so many people have lost their jobs and I worry everyday about mine.

Jessica

None! I just wrapped up my buying for the year. I have a feeling sales for many companies are going to be rough this fall, depending on the status of COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the contemporary designers have already used pretty aggressive sales tactics to get people to buy online.
