Many of you have heard me mention my coveted and beloved Proenza Schouler Crocodile PS1, and I’ve long promised to bring you the story of how I nabbed it for such a great price and how much I love it.
Part of me thinks I’ve avoided sharing the story because I keep waiting to wake up and realize it was all just a dream. The truth is, I somehow scored the sickest deal known to Proenza Schouler-kind and got the one crocodile PS1 that landed on THE OUTNET. (I’ve heard it was an accident).
THE OUTNET is celebrating its 5th birthday, and I wanted to share a story of my best purchase from THE OUTNET (and probably my best purchase ever).
A couple years ago, I woke up and was doing my usual morning routine, browsing some of my favorite shopping sites. When I clicked on the new arrivals at THE OUTNET, I saw something my eyes couldn’t believe – a Proenza Schouler Crocodile PS1 in a classic tan color, marked 70% off: down from $14,500 to $4,350.
I clicked purchase before my brain even processed the deal I was trying to nab, and when it did process, I called THE OUTNET to see if my dreams were really about to come true.
I still didn’t believe it until the bag arrived on my doorstep, but this exotic beauty is mine, and it’s more lovely than I ever imagined.
With the leather version of the large PS1 running around $2,000, this is the deal of a lifetime that I will never forget, on a bag I still can’t believe I own. Now that you have the story, let me break down this bag for you in our Purseonals.
Here is how my Proenza Schouler Crocodile PS1 scores in our PurseBlog Purseonals ratings:
Aesthetics
I have a hard time naming my favorite bag of all time, but I can easily say this is one of the top five in my personal collection. From the moment the PS1 was released, I was hooked, but although I’ve always been a girl who loves exotic skin bags, I never saw myself splurging on an exotic PS1 for almost $15,000. The discount made this my favorite bag ever at a price that is incredibly hard to beat.
The PS1 has a school bag feel, which plays well into my wardrobe of mostly jeans and comfy tops. I love the utilitarian touches, and the smooth, matte croc only makes this bag more of a beauty than the design already is.
Another: major other plus, when I saw this bag on THE OUTNET, the coloring was light (almost like a creamy caramel), but in person, it’s a richer tan hue that makes it that much more wearable.
Usability + Functionality
I have to be honest, this bag is a bit hard to get in and out of. Having the double front straps with slots isn’t that big of an issue, but after you remove the straps you have to open the front flap. The flap is long and as the bag sits on your shoulder you need to scrunch it up or fold it behind the bulk of the bag so you can reach inside easily.
Also, I like letting the PS1 hang low on my body, like a true messenger style, and that means when I want to get in to get things out, I need to grab the bottom of the bag and lift it up a bit. But that is a personal choice, you can easily adjust the straps so it doesn’t hang as low.
There are a few additions that make this bag easier to use. There is a back zip pocket that I always keep my phone and keys in which is easy to access. Once you open the bag there is another zip pocket and a pouch pocket along with the large interior compartment. The inside has plenty of room without having too much wasted space, which I appreciate greatly.
Once you have the bag open, the aspect of usability skyrockets, the problem for me is when the bag is closed and I have to open it.
Quality + Construction
I wish I could let all of you touch this bag, because upon touching it, you will feel the absolutely divine crocodile skin. The outside of the bag is lovely, but it’s the inside that takes it to the next level – the backside of the croc skin is one of the smoothest things I’ve ever felt.
I’ve had no issues with the bag’s durability – it holds its shape well and all of the materials are of the best quality I’ve seen. In fact, I’ve owned this bag for almost three years and it still smells brand new. Truly, if you smelled it, you would think it just had its last stitch sewn.
Value
The value for me was great, because I got the bag 70% off. For that, I obviously have to give it five value stars. For anyone who might buy this bag full price, the value rating goes down, because I don’t think many would spend nearly $15,000 for a crocodile PS1.
I find the PS1 to be priced fairly well in general. Many bags have exceeded the $2,000 barrier, but the medium PS1 still costs around $1,700, and the large, just under $2,000.
The ‘It’ Factor
Some worried that the PS1 would go out of style, but the bag continues to maintain its favor among fashion insiders and handbag lovers alike. The design is now easily recognizable while not being too played out, and for this reason, I give it 4.5 stars.
Total Score
Like I said, this bag is one of my best purchases ever and one of my favorite bags in my collection. I still can’t believe I ended up getting it at such an astoundingly great deal; in fact, sharing the story with you makes me want to pinch myself again.
This bag will always hold a very special place in my heart and will always be top rated for so many reasons. You can buy a variety of Proenza Schouler PS1 bags for $785 – $30,000 via Proenza Schouler.

Absolutely love your bag and the unbeatable steep discount Megs! I have a question though and it is on your lovely jewelry in the first pic. I recognize the Cartier love on your wrist but could you share where you got your gorgeous rings? Thanks!
Yep – rings are Jennifer Zeuner and CatBird. I added links to the post so you can find them!
Hi Megs, great to know that you got an amazing deal and steal! What a beauty! To me it’s a bit too large as I prefer the medium size but on you it looks great. I don’t own a PS1 yet but I have the PS11 the box type bag which I have not used yet. But upon playing with it when I first got it, I felt the same problem, getting into the bag. I hope you get many many such awesome deals in the future.
May I ask which brand of sunglasses you are wearing? Just curious.
If it was a bit easier to get in and out of the bag this would be the perfect bag! I love the PS11 too.
The sunglasses are Tom Ford, a few seasons ago 🙂
Megs, that’s truly a deal of a lifetime and I can only imagine how happy you are about it! I love the Outnet and I sure will check it out at least once per day after reading your story! Thanks for sharing!! 🙂
The Outnet has become part of my daily ritual since I got that bag!
I am a woman with a real life budget and the Outnet is my #1 shopping destination – it is responsible for several shoegasms and baggasms – but none as big as Megs 😉
Ok but for a real life budget…$4K+ for a bag?????
Wow! That bag is gorgeous and a lifer! Not to change the subject, but what nail color are you wearing in the main pic? I love it.
Nail color is Chanel Tentation – it’s a really pretty pink color, I’m obsessed – http://www.purseblog.com/link.php?id=14179
Great post Meg – love the Canada goose in the pic !
SO GLAD YOU SAW HIM! He was coming towards us while we were taking the pictures as if he wanted to be photographed too 🙂
Your PS1 is gorgeous! Is yours a medium or a large?
It’s a Large
What a score!! Such a beautiful color too.
I scored a white python PS1 medium for 50% off ($1700) from kirna zabete but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t an accident. White bags are high maintenance enough, who would pay full price for white python, right? I have yet to use the bag but it’s so pretty!
It is probably a little scary to carry, but that sounds stunning!
I love this bag! And I love the gold rings she is wearing too…anyone know where I could get these rings?
The gold rings are from Jennifer Zeuner and CatBird. This is the Jennifer Zeuner ring: http://www.purseblog.com/link.php?id=14178
It was meant to be yours!
I know… it was bag fate!
Stuff of urban legend…
Still pinching myself!
That’s SO AWESOME, I didn’t even realize they made them in croc leather! The nab of a lifetime, thank you for sharing this purseonals. Love love love it. I’d say it’d look awesome on a guy too. So happy for you!!!
Totally think it would look great on a guy too – thanks for the kind words!
From here onwards, you’ll simply be known as “The girl with the croc PS1”
HAHA this made me LOL
For me, it looks more like a bag the cowboys movies put over their horses , in order to take whater, their smoke , food, and everything…horrible!
Not even the fine leather would help to change that western appel
You’re so lucky Megs! It’s a great addition to your already fabulous collection. I love reading about it so please feature more of your bags here 🙂
I found two very special Céline bags for a price too good to be true (but it was true, best Céline deal ever) so I know how you feel. Best feeling ever! Except for the moment you aren’t sure your order proceeded succesfull. I was feeling terrible! lol
Which Celine deal?! Spill it 🙂
I got a python box and a pony hair case bag for less than a regular mini luggage! Both bags were in new condition. Best deal ever right?!
YES!!! Jealous!! 🙂
What an awesome story Megs! And an awesome bag for sure. I’d go for a more in-your-face kind of colour (brights are my weakness! lol) but this one does look elegant and cool. Then again, almost everything Proenza Schouler makes looks cool. Also, I personally love the security of straps and a flap because out in the wild I’m a paranoid woman. 🙂
I was actually surprised a bright croc PS1 wasn’t what the Outnet had – this color is more classic and it would seem like a bright color would be first to go on sale
So envious! What a beautiful bag! I love PS1’s and I have several. Getting in and out of the bags so easily and quickly is probably why I love them so much. I’m a small bag girl though so I have a couple pouches and a couple tinys. I do have a medium too but rarely use it. I guess the flap on the large bag is a lot bigger and changes that function. I would so love to have a croc PS1. You’re a lucky girl!!! Enjoy!
I was wondering if the smaller versions would be easier to get in and out of… you answered that for me!
Excellent article, glad to read something not about a celeb for once 🙂
Fabulous piece! So nice see something online by a nonceleb for a change! Great bag too, but I agree, those buckles aren’t user friendly.
The buckles aren’t too bad, but they definitely add an extra step. Glad you liked the feature!
Love Jennifer Zeuner Jewelry and I love your bag… Congratulations on you purchase!
Jennifer Zeuner has the best jewelry! Love her! Thanks 🙂
Gorgeous! Love the bag 🙂

The bag is absolutely gorgeous, and I loved the story. I hope to read more posts like this one, so much fun! I have loved the PS1 since I first saw it, and obsessed about getting one for quite a while. But after trying it, I was worried that getting into it would irritate me over time, with the straps, and buckles. Clearly it’s worth a little inconvenience. Thanks!!
Ya, it’s totally worth the extra steps to get in and out. Someone made a good point saying the smaller size PS1’s might be easier to get in and out of. This is the large size
Hi Megs, I , too was able to get my PS1 at a greatly discounted price. The original tag was $2100 and I got it for $720 . I had proenza on my wish list so I was quite happy to purchase the bag. After two uses (for church only) I noticed the color transfer from my clothes to the bag. Would you know if I would still be able to fix this ? I contacted Proenza thru email but I was quoted their color disclaimer and discouraged any chemical treatment on the bag.
Thanks
What color is your bag? I’d say you need to wear lighter clothes, not dark denim, to try to help. Denim is what always gets me
It’s the black and white triangle print (looks like houndstooth) … Thanks for the response
Hi Meg, I am thinking of buying a medium leather PS1. Is it over and done with it or you think its still in style (a classic?) and a good buy.
