Introducing the Prada Margit Bag

One of the hardest feats a handbag design can master is being both compact and spacious while also remaining fashionable. I spend a lot of time looking at bags – holding them, carrying them, and wearing them. When I find a bag that somehow combines versatility with utility and style, I am hooked and want to share it with the world. Enter the new Prada Margit line. This bag looks compact (and it is) but it’s also deceivingly spacious, which is hard to get right.

If you think elements of the Margit are similar to another Prada bag we recently covered, they are. The Prada Margit bag shares design features with the Prada Sidonie, including the same rolled top handle, the leather strap detailing, and the hardware along the sides of the bag where the top handle connects. But that’s where the similarities end, as this bag is a hobo and hence more practical for daily and evening use.

We’ve deemed the hobo as a shape that has made a resurgence, and this bag provides that easily recognizable shape without the slouch. The Margit bag is structured, sleek and slender in appearance, but don’t be fooled by the low profile from the side view. This bag opens like an accordion, allowing far more space to carry items than you’d assume. Both sizes of the Margit have a center divide that splits the interior of the bag into two equally sized compartments. Depending on the size of the Margit, there are different interior compartments.

While the smaller size of the Margit easily works as an evening bag as well, the larger size is the more functional everyday bag. The supple calf leather is durable yet light (and smells delicious). The split interior offers a flap pocket on its front and a zipped pocket on the rear compartment. The top of the bag closes with a magnetic closure that is strong enough to hold the bag together but allows for easy access. If you carry this bag over your shoulder by the top handle, the drop is significant enough to easily reach in and grab whatever item you’re looking for which I find to be a major plus. The longer (optional) shoulder strap allows for easy crossbody wear and like its sibling, the Sidonie, this bag features leather strap detailing as an added effect. Priced at $2,790, the large Margit is available via Prada.

Though the smaller size of the Prada Margit Bag could also be carried during the day, I see it more as a compact day-to-evening bag versus your everyday hauler. To visualize the size, I can tell you an iPhone Xs Max fits just about perfectly standing up in the bag, stopping right below the magnetic top closure. Small but mighty, the smaller size also expands to allow for more items to fit than you’d imagine and the front compartment has a flap pocket. The smooth leather alongside the sleek and refined lines makes this bag stand out along with the bright color options. Buy via Prada for $1,990.

The exterior of these bags contains a tonal Prada logo which offers an elevated look. What I adore about the Prada Margit is just how very Prada they feel, and this bag is no different. Both gold and silver hardware options are available, depending on the color leather you choose. The leather is rich and thick yet somehow doesn’t weigh the bag down and the design is different, yet incredibly wearable. Though bags continue to get smaller, Prada found a way to size down the Margit without completely compromising functionality and wearability. Plenty of color options are offered and I have to say the small yellow and pink versions may be my favorites.
