I once mused that Tessa Thompson was one of the most underrated style stars, and while she has definitely proven that her looks are worth a good look, we still don’t cover them nearly enough. In part, that’s because Thompson keeps a relatively low profile when she’s not actively promoting a project, but when she is, oh, are we blessed!
Thompson stars in the new Amazon Prime film, Hedda, which is a modern interpretation of a 1891 play. This adaptation weaves themes of race and sexuality into the story, with Thompson’s character identifying as bisexual.
Leading up to the film’s release, Thompson made the press rounds, serving look lewk after lewk, with a curious new accessory in hand—a classic black Birkin. While I’m not typically a Birkin girl (my holy grail is a vintage Kelly), Thompson’s impeccable styling is inching me back towards Birkinland.
Let’s take a look!
Retro Cool
First up, we’ve got a stylish outfit that’s somehow both dressed up and dressed down at the same time—and her classic black Birkin ties it all together. Her sporty leather moto jacket and relaxed rugby shirt are paired with a cool take on the classic wool midi skirt, all by NYC-based brand Commission.
Chic and Sleek
Next up, Thompson upped the chic factor in head-to-toe Tory Burch Spring 2026 for a visit to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, proving that a classic black bag—and signature sunnies (hers are by Jacques Marie Mage)—can do it all. Suddenly, we all need a red leather skirt!

Her Birkin is nice, but her clothes are disastrous and unflattering.
The Birkin looks terrible with the first outfit, it sticks out like a sore thumb and not in Pheobe Philo subversive chic way.
