Mulberry’s Spring 2019 Lookbook Shows That It’s a Bag Brand You Should Be Watching Right Now

The brand is a great combination of indie aesthetics and legacy leather goods craftsmanship

I’ve been waiting all fashion month to have some fun. There have been good bags in most of the shows that feature them, but a good bag here and there isn’t really exciting to me—most brands make at least one or two every season, in perpetuity. What’s exciting to me is a point of view that feels fresh, because that provides the opportunity for a lot more: all the big brands and most of the indies are capable of producing well-made leather goods, but who among them is going to do it with a sense of joy and creativity? Right now, the answer to that is Mulberry.

The brand has had some high-profile and well-documented strategic trouble over the past five years, but ever since the company reshuffled its executives and appointed former Céline handbag head Johnny Coca to its creative helm several years ago, things have been on an undeniably positive track. Mulberry’s Spring 2019 lookbook gives me even more optimism about the brand’s future, and the bags within it provide a mixture of cheerfulness and sound design and execution that marry the best qualities of the old-school leather houses and the indie brand interlopers that have invigorated the market in the past two years. Check out the collection below.

File under: Bags that instantly make you feel like Kate Middleton and consequently make you straighten up your posture and smile delicately at the showroom mirror

I never considered Mulberry before but based on the Instagram rubbish the other brands turned out this season I will DEFINITELY be checking out Mulberry. Thank you for finally presenting some usable pieces.

That large tote (pics 5 and 9) with the thin chain handle would really dig into your shoulder if it were fully loaded with laptop etc. I hope it also comes with a more comfortable and durable leather shoulder strap. Otherwise hard pass. I do like the bags shown in photos 11 and 16. However, if you read some of the Mulberry threads on TPF, quality issues have been raised more than once. If the quality is there, then these are interesting alternatives. Note: some of the styles shown have been around a while, it’s just new colors and expensive croc variations.

I really like 11 & 16 as well but didn’t see it on their website.

I’m ALL about 10, 11, and 16. Let’s hope they come onto the website soooooon!!!

I never gave a thought to Mulberry bags before but I saw a gorgeous tri-color bag with beautiful burnished gold hardware in the store in Forum Shops in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and bought it. The price was very good for a premium bag. I started carrying it last Friday and everywhere I go I get compliments on it, including several from my bag loving friends and co-workers. Two days ago, while traveling to New York from California, the woman behind me in line at the airport complimented the bag and then said something to the effect that she never even considered a Mulberry bag before but would pay more attention to the brand now so I think this article is right on time. Almost the exact same compliment from two women when I was checking into my hotel in NYC so Mulberry is on the move. My husband joked that Mulberry should be paying me for advertising.

I might be buying a Mulberry bag from this collection! Mulberry got it this season…many of the other premium designers did not.

Really like where they’ve taken the brand with these designs

I’m so happy to see some great bags without logos all over them!!

Never paid attention to Mulberry before, but these are cool! Innovative and distinct, but not flashy. Those tote chains must hurt your shoulders bad though.

This summer, I purchased the small zipped bayswater, in the burgendy color. It is a wonderful, easy care, but elegant bag. It is priced wonderfully for the quality and I would love to add more Mulberry to my collection. Very classic, and well made.

These are amazing!! So much nicer than some of the other bags featured here!

I have loved Mulberry for years. I just got the small Harlow from this season. It seams to be of great quality and it is both beautiful and funky in it’s dark grey croc leather. Also, what is great about Mulberry is their repair service. I’ve sent in some really well used pieces and they replace locks or worn out leather piping, etcetera. Love that! It is good for the environment as well.

I’ve just seen this and am so in love. Trying to decide between the Harlow or the Amberley.

Also loving the bag shown in picture 24.

For years I’ve thought Mulberry wasn’t getting the attention they deserved- now things are gonna change!
