2018 could very well be characterized as the year of the logo, and if our favorite designers’ Spring 2019 collections are any indicator, the logo love continues on into 2019. That being said, it can be hard to find a stunning bag that oozes elegance and is incredibly chic, but doesn’t scream its brand name in your face. I’ll be the first to admit that I am into the logo trend, and though there are a lot of naysayers out there, I’m not afraid to say it. I came of handbag-loving age during the height of the logo obsession of the late 90s and early 2000s, and the return of the logo love has brought with it a lot of nostalgia. Though I’ve been rocking my logo bags lately—new, and old!—I’m also getting to an age where I can appreciate a bag that is a bit under the radar. I’ve also begun to understand why someone would want to carry an expertly crafted bag that’s beautiful but not distinctly designer. Recently I’ve found myself crushing on Marni Handbags.
Though not new to the handbag game, Marni Bags were never really on my radar until a couple of weeks back when I was putting together a Bag Deals post. I scrolled past a stunning blue crossbody bag and my fingers froze over the bag as I didn’t immediately know which designer it was. I was drawn to the bag’s half moon shape, big gold detailing and deep blue hue. I looked at the brand and when I saw it was Marni I was intrigued to view details, but also I wanted to see what else the brand had to offer. With a quick search I saw that there were many other bags in the Marni lineup that I would love to own. While my original crush has since sold out, I’ve rounded up some of my other current favorites from the brand below. I’m itching to get my hands on a Marni bag for myself and I’d love to hear your thoughts too!
I really like these but have a weird feeling I wouldn’t if we weren’t currently in the throes of so many maximalist handbag trends right now (print, big straps, loud colors, etc). To me the relative blandness of these is refreshing
Marni is a wonderful brand! So glad PB is featuring some of their designs.
Number 7 is super lovely (and a very classy alternative to the YSL “Independence Day” bags!)
Love Marni. Considered buying the Trunk but got sidetracked. I’ve checked them out in store though…great quality and beautiful leather.
We’ll see what we can do! Would love to do an in-depth review for you all 🙂
I am so glad to see a post about Marni on here! I have been quite interested in this brand lately!
I love the look of the Trunk bag, from the front, but from the side it is very wide and bulky, and does not fall nicely on whoever is wearing it. It has so many separate compartments that the side view looks quite “off” for that reason too. If it would be nicer from the side I probably would have it on my wish list cause I think it is a very cool, casual looking bag.
I also love the look of the Pannier bags, but I am not sure I love the look of them when they hang on the shoulder or cross body. They too sit a bit awkward on you. But I can’t deny that the handles are so beautiful, it’s like a piece of art. Unfortunately they are a bit pricey for the use I would get out of them, I thought about buying one to wear as a summer-y “fun bag”, but decided to go for the Simon Miller Bonsai tote instead! I love the “bohemian” look it has, it had a more humane price and I will probably get more use out of it as it looks way more “casual”. I also think it will “age better” in terms of looking dated, even though it too has those large, round handles on the top! As it’s more “neutral” in a way.
I would love for Purseblog to dedicate a post for Simon Miller bags! I’ve searched for them on here, on TPF and on youtube, and I found some pictures in a few posts on this blog, but not any longer articles written about them or the brand, and just a few styles were shown (the same styles were featured more than once), and all the youtube videos were in asian languages, so not much of a help!
I’d love to see some celebrity pictures where people are actually carrying these bags, for inspiration, and pictures and your smart texts about the brand and the bags, etc, I would be so happy if someone would want to do this. I think it’s a very fun brand, at a fairly good price point, and I am sure I would not be the only one who would appreciate a longer post about them/the brand! Mine is the Bonsai 30, in nubuck, and I would love for it to be featured if possible! <3
Oh PS: I would not wear those cropped jeans even if my life depended on it. (ref. to an old post about who wears what bag, but thanks. lol.)
I love the ones with more minimalist hardware. I like the ‘continuous’ strap on the Tuk shoulder bag.
But 2420 dollar for this crossbody bag…
Over-priced.
I have a Trunk bag and it’s one of a few bags I received compliments on and I have allkind of brands range from no name, artisan, local designer up to Chanel. (Very rarely people will compliment on my Chanel.) It’s very functional and I love the polish feel it gives off.
