Louis Vuitton’s First Collection Under Designer Virgil Abloh Will Apparently Include Holographic Bags

The brand tweeted a preview photo this morning

As we reported when it was announced, Off-White designer Virgil Abloh is the new creative director of Louis Vuitton‘s men’s division, and his first collection will debut tomorrow, June 21, at Paris Men’s Fashion Week Spring 2019. Abloh was a buzzy name in fashion long before he was appointed to the position at Vuitton because of his trend-perfect blend of streetwear ideas with designer fashion, and many in the industry are curious to see exactly how those tendencies will meld with a historic house like Vuitton. Earlier today, Louis Vuitton gave us a sneak peek on social media.

The photo in question is a shape that will look familiar to anyone who loves bags—it’s Louis Vuitton’s longtime duffel, the Keepall—but the fabrication is entirely new. The surface is finished in both embossed monogram like LV’s Vernis patent leather, as well as a color-shifting iridescent oil slick finish. Most interesting to me, though, is that the bag appears to be translucent, which suggests Abloh is going in guns blazing to transform LV in his image. The bag is finished with a clear plastic chain strap, and I believe the use of chain would also be a a first for the Keepall.

Check out the full image below, and check back on Monday to see our review and more images after the collection debuts.

I’m not entirely sure how I feel

Ohhhh I love this new Off White collection! ? LV? LV? or extra collection piece from Remowa x VA? Unique idea but no luxury enough for me as it looks like cheap design and something like specially made it for young school kids. But this is only some of his design so can’t wait to see VA’s first collection. It would be interesting to compare between KJ for Dior and VA for LV.

this is reminiscent of the mirror finish a few years ago

gimmicky and tacky in my opinion!

who are they trying to target with these collections?

Jerri R

The Blac Chynas of the world — tacky loud and desperate for conspicuous consumption

KM

Wow. That’s a racist statement. Especially since he makes menswear.

Jerri R

Of course there would be a moron who sees racism where there is none

psny15

this is another disastrous collection like the paintings one two years ago

Kim Jones is missed already!!!
Virgil is the Kim Kardashian of design and I m totally unimpressed by the sneak pics we have seen so far. God help us.

I am not crazy about the Streetwear direction this brand is going. Streetwear by definition is young. How many of them can really afford these things? And I find this trend disturbing, young people so into conspicuous consumption.

Le-Cheap.

Just watched the show…shocking one indeed. No original ideas and so cheap looking collection.
Can I say VA got some ideas from Raf Simons? For me, clothes and bags are not matching at all, and a translucent monogram bag can’t even hold its own shape! So confusing and no idea where Louis Vuitton is heading right now.
In addition, it was kinda funny to watch KK, CW and Takahashi M are only seems like excited about this most terrible collection show.
Big NO!!

I think it will be a cool collector’s piece.

I quite like this hologram bag and the gold vernis bag that was also previewed, however it wouldn’t be something that I would purchase. I like that Virgil is doing something different, although some would argue it’s just Off-White 2, it’s just fun to watch. Quite often on the pb celeb posts, there are complaints about celebs wearing the same old boring bags. These bags will really shake things up!

yes, fun to watch but not for the price point.

I had no idea Vuitton was so desperate !!!!!

I saw Rihanna rocking this bag, but for regular people, it’s not going to work.

I love pretty much everything holographic. While I love this bag I would never buy it.

What makes this so trash is the size. If it were a shoulder/crossbody, I think it would have been a nice workable summer bag. And I’m not entirely sure what man would carry this aside for photo/’gram opportunities. Such a waste.

These types of finishes tend to age terribly. They wear off or tarnish after only a few uses. I appreciate that he’s introducing some new ideas but he needs to realize that at these prices points people won’t be happy when their $3000 mirror metallic bag turns color.
