My Louis Vuitton Neverfull is the Gift That Keeps on Giving

There's a reason this bag is so popular...

By now it’s safe to assume that you are familiar with the Louis Vuitton Neverfull, but if you’re not then I’m guessing you’ve stumbled onto PurseBlog by mistake, in which case welcome! One of the most prominent bags on the luxury market, the Neverfull was released back in 2007 and is still winning the hearts of purse lovers worldwide today. Easily identifiable, you can’t turn a corner these days without spotting a Neverfull or two in the wild. Often the gateway for shoppers into the premier handbag world, it is arguably one of the brand’s most successful designs of all time. PurseBlog has covered the Neverfull extensively in the 12 years since it was released and for very good reason. Still generating a strong buzz among purse lovers, it has that it-factor, cool vibe that just won’t quit, and it is my opinion that it has earned its title as a new classic for Louis Vuitton. Shoppers on the Louis Vuitton website are often met with the dreaded “call for availability” when trying to add the Neverfull, to their cart, proving this bag is still in high demand.

I own the Neverfull in all three of the available canvases (Monogram, Damier Azur, and Damier Ebene), I love it just that much! While I adore each of the canvases I own, I am crossing my fingers and toes that we will see it released in the Monogram Eclipse, Damier Graphite, or Reverse Monogram canvases one day. A gal can dream, right? Of course they’re not the rarest bags in my collection, but that doesn’t make them any less special in my eyes. In fact, I still get excited when I see one in the wild, which I frequently do due to its popularity. My monogram Neverfull with beautiful pivoine lining was my first premier designer bag purchased directly from the boutique rather than from a consignment luxury shop. I still remember my heart beating out of my chest as they swiped my card for payment, but it was true love at first sight between me and the Neverfull. I had to have it, even though I had never spent that kind of money on a bag before.

Why I Love The Neverfull

Of course there are the obvious reasons I love the Neverfull. It’s wonderfully lightweight and roomy, and the rumors are true, it’s literally never full. You can purchase this bag in 3 sizes, which from smallest to largest are the PM, MM, and GM sizes. I personally own the MM size in each of mine, which is the just right, Goldilocks, size for me. You can cinch the sides of the tote to give it an entirely different shape, which I think looks especially cute with the GM size. The price is relatively affordable for such a large premier designer handbag ($1,320), especially when you compare the price against other bags on the market. When you purchase a Neverfull it comes with a removable pouch , which is one of my favorite features of this tote. It’s basically getting two bags for the price of one, and I use mine as wallets and to carry my cosmetics. I’m always surprised the pouch comes included in your purchase since they sell like hotcakes on the resale market, but you won’t find me complaining about it if LV is willing to include them.

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of big tote bags, but I fell in love with the Neverfull because of how versatile it is. I wear mine to brunch with friends, work, travel, and running errands. To quote Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada, “I live my life in it”. That quote resonates so strongly with me and I feel that way about my Neverfull, it truly is my constant companion! It fits under my shoulder comfortably and holds everything I need, making it perfect for almost any occasion. My friend Hannah uses her Damier Ebene Neverfull every single day and refers to it lovingly as her child. We talk about our love of this bag often, and she has expressed on multiple occasions that she can’t believe how well hers has stood the test of time, and I have to agree with her. I use mine very regularly and they barely show any sign of wear, other than the natural darkening of the vachetta. I can be known to baby my bags, but not my Neverfulls. They truly can take a beating and are hands down the most durable bags in my collection. Hannah even spilled an entire bottle of diet coke inside of her Neverfull (the horror!), and we were both shocked when it didn’t leave a stain on the exterior or interior of the bag. If you are someone who doesn’t baby your bags, the Neverfull is for you!

To my Neverfull, thank you for enduring all that I have put you through. I am still head over heels in love with this bag and I would be first in line to purchase another if additional canvases become available!

Awesome piece!

I think we should see the Neverfull in the same way as an iPhone. Everyone has it and that’s totally fine, because it’s the best. Thinking about it, it’s actually beautiful. We come together in our love for the bag and acknowledge that we all deserve design perfection!

Cute and well stated article. I’m not a fan of the bag as I don’t buy anything with an unsecure opening, but appreciate her love for the bag. I feel the same way about my 5 LV Speedys!

Fun piece!

I like the Neverfull, but its ubiquity makes me doubt I’ll ever purchase one. Even just going to the grocery store, I can easily see 5-6 people carrying the MM Neverfull in Damier Ebene or Azur and it makes the bag feel a little less special to me.

ABizzle

THIS. I love the versatility of a tote and the price is great, but the Neverfull is the Ugg boot of the handbag world. The damn thing is everywhere.

Karisma

Lol ?”Ugg boot of the handbag world”. That is hilarious!

Jaime

I agree that you do see them everywhere real and fake. I got mine monogramed through LV so I like to think mine looks little unique. LOL

I’ve been seeing the Neverfall all over my hometown, it’s become the biggest it bag. My sister in law also owns one in the MM size, and she uses it as a diaper bag. Despite it being slouchy when it’s not full, it still ends up being a great bag to use and it looks lovely.

Charlotte

Why doesn’t the drawing of the model have any hands? It’s a little creepy. 🙂

Karisma

Her sleeves are extra long.?

Bryan Lepe

It could be an oversized sleeve top. Lol

Gigi

Aw I thought she was cute! It reminds me of wearing a sweater with baggy sleeves, the perfect thing to keep your hands warm in all day 🙂

Sparky

Terrible illustration. Very amateurish.

A tote isn’t really a handbag
It’s like calling a moumou a dress.
I think a big part of its popularity is how attainable it was. The price was around 750.00-800.00 when it came out . It’s still the most affordable LV “handbag” next to the speedy.
CallinG it the UGG of the bag world is spot on.
I had one and loved it to death. I would not still would not buy a new one. I would however revisit the speedy.

I don’t care what anyone says, I love this bag soooo much. I did in fact wear mine out. And now I’m waiting, like you, for a new design of canvas. It’s everywhere for a reason. I followed mine up with the Damier Azur backpack. My child is now super mobile, and it’s easier to run with. But it’s not the same. Then I got the goyard tote. It’s fragile in comparison. I will have another Neverfull, probably more than one! Great post!

MamaSleepy

The one you wore out, was it the older, thick, sturdy canvas?

Vlaibl

Yes. What really wore out was the leather. Canvas was intact. But all the leather trim finally was full of holes.

Jessica O

The leather can be replaced though right? instead of having to buy a whole new bag…

Chirurgie-esthetique

Can be really a nice gift chirurgie esthetique

I purchased the World Tour version, which is completely customized for me, by me, including initials and places I’ve visited throughout the world. This took a bag which is easily copied very unique. I get complimented frequently! Love it!

lvluvah

I did something similar, customized one and have 3 other limited edition ones, that I constantly receive compliments on.

Jerri R

I actually hate the Neverfull’s thin straps that dig into your shoulder if you carry heavy stuff in it

miChiaroscuro

This! This is what’s stopped me from pulling the trigger 🙁

I love this bag. I think it looks nice and it’s fully functional for what I need. However, I have been fighting to stop myself from buying it all these years, because everyone has this bag. I literally see it several times a day almost everyday. I saw hordes of them at the airport, several at the mall and some at the gym. I will probably bite the bullet and get one eventually though, because I think I would use it a lot.

MamaSleepy

If it only had a zipper – or ANY secure closure. Sigh.

Sherry A Swirsky

I bought my GM Damier Ebene not long after it came out and have used it virtually every day since. (I own many other designer bags that get very little use.) I deal with the open top by using a zippered bag organizer. I have never used any other bag for that long. I live in a city and am car-less, so it is essential for work, doing errands and carting around newspapers, books, magazines, water, shoes, packages etc. I love the capacity and how lightweight it is. But it is now in terrible shape and I am in a quandary: what to buy to replace it. There aren’t too may totes that come in a comparable size. I haven’t found any other tote that has a inside wall zippered pocket like the Neverfulll, and I don’t think would be happy without that feature. Nevertheless, the Damier Ebene Neverfull is ubiquitous where I live, so I really don’t want to buy another one. Also, I am tired of it after all of these years. Any recommendations you have for a replacement would be greatly appreciated!

Also interested in suggestions for a similarly convenient replacement tote!

It’s a common bag, but that’s because it’s a good one. In the spring and summer, I reach for the Neverfull over any other bag. (I don’t use it in winter because I find the shoulder strap too short to wear with bulky outerwear, and winters are cold where I live, so bulky outerwear is an inescapable reality!) Totally agree about the pochette that comes with the bag: I take it out of the Neverfull and use it frequently with other bags. My Speedy 25 and Neverfull tote are the real workhorses in my collection. I have a collection of Chanel classics, as well as a fledgling Hermès collection, including a Birkin, but I don’t use them nearly as often.

I avoided the Neverfull for years because it was so popular but I finally got one in 2017 and I wonder what took me so long! I use it as a travel bag, work bag to fit my laptop, and baby bag. I have just one in DE and it’s serving me very well. I can’t believe I deprived myself of an awesome bag for years because “everyone had it.” Sometimes things are popular for a good reason.

I think the neverfull is a bad idea. The strap is cracked after 2 months of purchase and under 30 days of use. I baby my bags ALOT. I researched the bag before purchase and didn’t listen to other people’s issues they are having with their straps. Their ‘after sales service’ is none existent. It’s like it’s their other revenue stream. They just gave me the run around between the boutique and customer service on the phone. It’s not about the $80 repair cost. It’s about that LV doesn’t stand behind the quality of their products. All they care about is making the sale. I’m from Canada, I don’t know if it’s different else where.
