Earlier this year Louis Vuitton debuted its Pre-Fall 2021 collection in stunning images that showcased a colorful new direction for the brand. The collection focused on change and transformation, which Ghesquière took on himself after a year filled with so much uncertainty.
While change has been a theme for so many in the industry this year, for Ghesquière and Vuitton this meant looking at fashion in a new way, focusing on the juxtaposition of high/low and redefining sophistication from a more practical view than before. This contrast meant pairings of luxurious and delicate materials with a more urban, downtown attitude. Girly shapes and silhouettes were paired with more sporty and boxy shapes and colorful bags and accessories make for the perfect finishing touch. The collection, dubbed Louis Vuitton’s Vuittamins is expressed through 3 major stylistic pillars of Ghesquière’s: Tech Romanticism, Energetic Sportswear, and Rediscovering Essentials. It draws on these angles and is meant to offer a boost of joy and optimism.
The collection further expresses Louis Vuitton’s vision of modernity and with bold colors and chromatic pairings, brings a fresh life to Louis Vuitton’s new icons like the Pochette Coussin and the Papillon Trunk. Some pieces just launched on Louis Vuitton.com, which means the rest of the collection will likely soon follow suit. Almost positive I said this on the last post about this collection but it looks like Gucci with the GG’s swapped with LV’s and not in a good way. The utilitarian crossbody is pretty cool unisex option though.
