Louis Vuitton’s Iconic Speedy Gets a Mini Makeover for Spring 2020

A closer look at this little mini, first seen on the runway

When Louis Vuitton presented its Spring 2020 collection at Paris Fashion week last fall the reviews were mixed. Some loved the collection overall while some were unsure of creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere’s vision. However, despite these varying opinions there was one bag that garnered a lot of attention, and now that the bag has finally popped up on the Louis Vuitton website, we’re giving you a good look at all of the details. Introducing: the Louis Vuitton Speedy BB.

This nano version of Louis Vuitton’s iconic top handle bag is the perfect statement piece for spring. Though simple and sleek due to its all leather body, its details stand out amongst the clean palette. It’s all about the add-ons when it comes to this bag, from the monogrammed hanging luggage tag to the intricate braided leather and chain strap, this bag is simple but sleek.

This bag is iconic, but still trendy, resulting in an elegant, yet practical everyday bag. Crafted from natural cowhide leather, the bag features a monogram coated canvas hangtag as well as leather trims. Inside, the bag reveals a monogram fabric lining (plus an interior slit pocket), which pays homage to the original Speedy bag. A removable chain strap allows for dual wear in addition to the top handle straps. Overall dimensions of the Speedy BB are 5.5″ L x 6.9″ W x 4.3″ D and it retails for $2,760. Unfortunately this bag is currently sold out via Louis Vuitton, but may be available in boutiques.

Oh my…I NEED IT

Jaime G

Cute but does the whole bag turn the darker tan like the handles normally do on a LV over time?

Art

However, there are ways to lessen the darkening of the patina. Awhile ago I watched a youtube video of an impeccably attired gentleman who described exactly what to do to prevent darkening of the handles, etc. He recommended putting the bag in a window with direct sunlight, but alternating it over a couple of days. Then, use a gentle baby wipe (he recommends a particular brand that I’ve forgotten) and the end result was beautiful!
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched the video and I may have reversed the order, but if you are interested you can go to youtube. He uses his own personal bags as an example and they are gorgeous! I have a L.V. Alma that I haven’t used yet, but before I do I’ll find his channel and follow his recommendation.

I think you’re talking about Ashley. Here’s his youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/BmwA5H

Art

Yes, it was Ashley! Thank you!

MademoiselleConnasse

Yes, the entire bag will develop a patina and darken overtime. Louis Vuitton has produced all-untreated leather bags over the years. That’s not for everyone, of course. But leather lovers usually appreciate these special bags.

Jaime G

And the best way to determine fake vs. real. Thanks for the note. 🙂

Divadeluxnyc

If that bag was mine it would be stained in a second LOL

Julie

I’m getting tired of the overhype of L.V. bags where they peak my interest, but when I go online or in store to purchase, they are immediately sold out. How many new bags do they make at a time…50? I’m so over their marketing strategy!

Jaime G

Don’t forget every single influencer will get it for free too, while we search for the bag. I’m with you.

Jerri R

That turns me off even more!

Julie

Of course! I forgot about them! I’m not sure they really appreciate their free bags because I’ve seen a few sell them at almost full price since they “no longer reached for them”, which is B.S. Any designer can give me a free bag and I’ll be a lot more appreciative! : )

Oh My God yes i cant stand influencers or youtubers – i miss the days of models and i thought celebrities were bad but with reality stars and now influencers/ youtubers its a hot mess

Michelle

Is the bag made out of vachetta/veg tanned leather or treated/dyed leather? I think it’s great for a very understated, ‘not-in-your-face” kinda look from LV. It’s hard to come by those sometimes

Tammy Cooke Leavy

And most of the You Tubers and Influencers don’t look like they should be influencing anything.

Kerry

Can’t agree more Tammy! It is so true and I never influenced by no on them when I look for a new bag or some ideas. They are not professional and they just wanted to seen in the public with their hideous outlook.

Jerri R

It doesn’t give me a premium designer vibe 🙁

Chris Chan

It will be looking good for fashion bloggers or brainless influencers.
Most likely I will never spend $2760 on that bag and prefer to get a bag from Gucci or Fendi if I still want to have a new bag.
However dealing with bloody COVID 19, I have been asking myself is it really worth to buy an expensive bags or any high end pieces? To me it is kinda wake up call and suddenly feel no excitements when I looked at hole my expensive show bag collections from different brands……just don’t know why….somehow don’t feel any good vibe…

Cecelia

I understand what you mean. I like the bags I have, but due to the current crisis the most important thing is taking care of our basic needs, including our safety needs. Nothing else really matters now.
