Yesterday, we brought you news of some new Monogram Canvas prints that Louis Vuitton is trying out for summer, and now we have some news on the leather front. On Twitter yesterday, the brand unveiled its newest leather design, the Louis Vuitton Volta Bag, alongside its new ad campaign with returning star Michelle Williams. Today, we’ve got the photos and prices.
The bag, which comes in four colors in its single size and retails for $4,300, uses hardware similar to the Capucines, which was among the first bags out of the gate when Louis Vuitton decided to increase its creation of the kind of discreet leather bags that top-tier shoppers currently prefer. In many ways, the new Volta feels like a more casual alternative to the somewhat more formal look of that bag.
In addition to its top handle, the Volta includes a removable shoulder strap to allow the bag to be worn as a messenger. Other than the partially leather-covered front clasp, there’s no other external branding, which makes this bag a somewhat subtle option for lovers of the brand who would rather not wear as much logo as many of Vuitton’s bags offer. hmmmm a bizarre interpretation of a trapeeze …… and the proportions are a bit off for my taste. still the leather is beautiful.
I wish it weren’t more narrow at the bottom than at the top, that keeps throwing me off when I look at it.

I wish the long strap is wider. This one looks quite slinky and fragile.
The top handle throws the proportion that is already odd with the wide rigid looking cover flap.
Probably something that needs to grow on me?
Sometimes I wish they do their research before they come up with something like this, just an awkward design and shape. Also, I wish they would replace Michelle Williams, don’t see anything special about her

It’s the right sort of idea but overall it doesn’t work. The flap being wider than the rest of the bag looks awkward. The shoulder strap is too thin. With a little tweaking, there’s potential for a great bag.

You’re definitely right about the strap being too thin. I also agree with John below about the resemblance to the Shark Tooth bag. OTOH, I’m happy to see that LV is catching on to the value of an internal zipped pocket. So many of their bags don’t!
It looks like they weren’t sure if this should be a briefcase-y/work bag or a more casual flap. It also bears some resemblance to the Be Dior!
This looks great and I love its retro vibe.
I like the versatility of this bag! The idea of using hardware to subtley display the “LV” monogram keeps the brand’s signature afloat, while not screaming “I am a Louis Vuitton!”, by printing all over the leather canvas. All in all, the look works for me (especially in the Petale).

I love the black leather with the contrast stitching – a great look – but I do find the proportions of this bag a bit odd.
So, they are getting the message that not everyone wants to be an LV logo billboard. Great. But….they took the idea of “restrained, minimalist design” and made a completely boring bag.
Why in the world would I pay $4300 for something this unremarkable???

I like it. Always liked LV, but the disproportionate flap I don’t like at all, it’s awkward looking. The shoulder strap could be wider, to carry this bag on your shoulder I can’t imagine would be too comfy. The coquelicot color is GREAT!

I saw this one on their website and thought it was an old style they had redone in a new leather or something. It looks dated to me. I think the proportions are off a bit.
I don’t like how the flap is wider than the rest of the bag. It looks awkward. In all honesty, I’m not a fan of when the top handle is attached to the flap. It’s also weird how it starts off wide and the top and then tapers towards the bottom of the bag where you need the most room.
With all of these flaws, the price just seems a bit ridiculous.
TOTALLY agree! Why is it customers can see the design flaws but the LV R&D team can’t!!! The front wide flap looks like they made a mistake when cutting the pattern. BTW, who is Michelle Williams? Obviously some celeb I’m supposed to recognize…
With such a large flap, it would be so cumbersome to take stuff in and out of the bag

Sorry Ladies, but this is a Sexy bag, it reminds me of a similar bag though, but I can’t put my finger on it, but the red is sexy and it is worth the purchase.

Actually, although the design is a little awkward on the eye and the price tag is enough to make them water, it could be a look which grows on me. The quality looks good and the LV logo is done tastefully. Stand-out feature is the interior which is gorgeous, leather lining is a nice touch. However, definitely paying the high price for the label as I know for a fact this level of quality is available for less, Beausanslogo do a Birkin style bag whose leather interior reminds me of this bag, has all this level of quality for less than $500. So I would say this is a bag for fans of Louis Vuitton not one for everyone – which in itself is a selling point.

I love the bag, but the black version with white stitching is awkward to me….cheapens the look.
