Introducing the Louis Vuitton Neo Alma in Monogram Empreinte

The classic Alma shape just got an embossed makeover

Louis Vuitton’s Alma bag has been around for about 90 years, and it is easily recognizable by both designer handbag lovers and non-handbag lovers alike. The classic shape is one of the most iconic designs in handbag history. It’s been reimagined by Louis Vuitton countless ways since Coco Chanel herself first commissioned a larger travel piece of a similar shape in the 1930s. Additionally, other brands have taken a cue from the handbag giant, producing their own Alma-esque silhouettes.

The Alma is a true classic that never goes out of style, and with big brands putting a focus on old and existing classics, it comes as no surprise that Louis Vuitton has just released a brand new version. Called the Neo Alma and crafted from soft, supple Monogram Empreinte leather with rounded top handles and a removable shoulder strap, Louis Vuitton’s latest Alma bag is incredibly eye-catching and the brand’s latest must-have. The Neo Alma in Monogram Empreinte comes in two sizes, the BB and the PM size. While both bags have the detachable shoulder strap, allowing for maximum versatility, sizing wise the BB would work best for day to night, while the PM is the perfect day bag. The spacious PM size has dimensions of 13.8″ W x 9″ H x 5.9″ D while the BB comes in at 9.8″ W x 7″ H x 4.7″ D.

Pictured above, the Neo Alma BB comes in three colors: cherry berry, noir and creme. While the PM, shown below, currently is online in only noir and creme. Both bags feature a microfiber lining in a contrasting color and iconic Louis Vuitton details such as the classic padlock and key tag. The updated embossed leather paired with the timeless details make this bag a beautiful modern classic. The Neo Alma BB just launched today and it retails for $1,960 via Louis Vuitton while the Neo Alma PM is available for $2,370.

I love the Alma and these are so, so pretty! (However, I believe there is an error in the listing. The post states that the BB size is: 9.8? W x 7? W x 4.7? D.). Should this read 7″ H?

Yes, fixed!

Wish all my friends hadn’t outgrown clubbing. I would wear the heck out of the small one

Legitimate question for people Stateside: What is your take on the fact that some of the LV bags for the US market are made in the USA (CA and TX), does it change something in your mind it not being made in France or doesn’t change anything?

Sparky

I don’t care where it’s made as long as it’s made well.

Guest

So you wouldn’t care if it was Made in China?

Sparky

Are we going down that path AGAIN???? NO. I don’t care if its made in China because I’m an informed consumer (and many of the components ARE being made in China). I work with the Chinese. They are masters of production. For luxury goods their craftsmanship is world class.

I’m SO, SO tired of the same old “I don’t want my bag made in China” racist, xenophobic rant. It’s really saying “I want a white person to make my bag”. Who do you think is managing the european factories? Who is sitting on the assembly lines? Until recently LV had factories in India producing, and I quote “bag components”. No one’s taking about that.

Sorry, but that Louis Vuitton key chain and Speedy have been MASS PRODUCED in an assembly line. These are enormous companies with tens of thousands of boutiques around the globe. Each and every one stocked to the ceiling with product. Do the math – you’d have to churn out thousands of pieces every day to keep the stores stocked. Of course, LV doesn’t use the word “factory”…. they say “workshop”….!!! You can charge $4000 for something made in a “workshop” but not a factory!!!

You don’t get to be a multi billion dollar business by selling a small quantity of product. You can’t stay in business paying one person to make one bag per day.

I’ve said it before: let’s be real here. We buy luxury goods for a PERCEIVED exclusivity and lifestyle fantasy. And I’m totally fine with that. I’ll pay thousands for a bag that only cost $300 to manufacture.

Also – look at your iPhone. A piece of manufacturing genius and precision, made in….CHINA. We eagerly fork over $1000 for it. Read somewhere an iPod cost $15 to make and retails for $150…..

That is a very interesting question and I live in the U.S.A. Do you live in France? If so what are your thoughts re: L.V. made in France vs. the U.S.A.? Would you be more partial to purchase a L.V. bag in France vs. the U.S.A.? Personally, when I traveled to France I purchased items from L.V., Chanel and Hermes. I purchased since I wanted a souvenir of my travels and to benefit financially from the VAT.

Maya

I live in Switzerland and I was wondering what you guys thought of it as the LV bags made in the USA are only for the US market. I usually like to have any brand name made in the country it is from, I don’t know, it might be psychological:))

SarahMcGee

I didn’t know that the LV bags made in the USA were only sold in the U.S., but I guess that makes sense to avoid additional tariffs, or whatever the reasons are. I understand your point about buying a bag made in the country it is from; perhaps, psychologically that is part of my reasoning as well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Always, nice to get another perspective from someone that lives outside of the U.S.

I think I would actually buy a bag made in the USA, because it’s a bit different from all the others that are made in France or in Spain… 😉

Jaime

I don’t like the idea. The enjoyment of getting a Louis Vuitton bag is the idea its from Europe and its exclusive to some degree (definitely depending on the bag). I have 7 LV bags and they all say made in Spain. I don’t like the idea of the made in the USA LV bag. I will be looking at this for future purchases to make sure it comes from Europe.

SarahMcGee

I read your post and when you say “I don’t like the idea of the made in the USA LV bag” is your opinion also based on potential quality issues? I’ve recently read that some ppl are stating that their newer bags aren’t holding up as well, but I don’t know where they were made. For me, when I travel to France or Spain I purchase from LV to have a tangible item to remind me of my travels and the VAT, but I’m curious about your reasons. Thx!

Funny you bring this up, I was working on a post about the new factory in Texas. But LV has been made in the US for a while now, this isn’t the first factory. I think some people have thoughts about it, so looking forward to hearing what everyone else has to say!

Maya

I saw the TX opening and was just curious of what you guys thought of it:)

TKS

Appears some of the above bags are made in the USA and some in France. All shipped from the warehouse in Ontario, CA. I guess at this point MIUSA or MIF are interchangeable.

Beautiful! I have the Epi Alma BB but there’s nothing that beats the luxury feel and look of the Empreinte leather. I like that they added the plain base – really just adds a new dimension to this bag.

Nik

I have two almas (PM in epi and BB in DE) and if it weren’t for the corners, I’d think of getting this one too. The way the corners are made, it’s very easy to predict fast wear and tear.

🙂 I’m not sure I like this model, because I find it disturbing that the monogram doesn’t go all the way down to the bottom of the bag. Somehow it looks like they went out of monogrammed leather and had to add something to it. It hurts my eyes. And I find that on pictures this model often looks like it’s made of plastic – especially the black version.
Maybe I need new glasses, I don’t know 😉

Trina

I don’t think it looks plastic, but I agree with you re: the construction of the bag. I don’t like that the monogram doesn’t go all the way down, either. It looks unfinished as though two different bags were sewn together. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it didn’t have this unusual look.

memsy

I love these!

Will this only be available in the states?

Janaki Subramanyam

Nice bag. I have the classic in all canvas & it was my first designer bag purchase. Still love the bag.

Mayko

Thanks for your post. I have the Alma bb Empreinte and there is a slight dimple on one side, is that normal?
