All the Bags From Matthew Williams’ First Pre-Fall Collection for Givenchy

The iconic shape of the Antigona lives on...

When it was announced that young designer Matthew Williams would be taking over the reigns at Givenchy as creative director, fans of the brand knew that big changes were afoot. The designer, who has his own streetwear label 1017 ALYX 9SM, is committed to presenting a new direction for the brand while also paying homage to the brand’s history. Williams is part of the new wave of millennial designers who are intent on doing things their own way and his latest collection proves just that.

Givenchy just released its pre-fall 2021 lookbook, giving fans a peek at what’s to come from Givenchy next fall. Of course, the collection includes bags, and lots of them. From new and innovative takes on the brand’s iconic Antigona shape to flap bags and mini bags with chunky chains and more, there’s no shortage of newness in this collection. The House’s archival and iconic four-G logo is seen throughout, used on hardware such as chains and closures as well as embossed onto leather bags. Williams spoke to Vogue on his usage of logos stating, “I’m doing the logos through construction and materials as much as possible, when there’s branding, it’ll be more subtle.” With the presentation of this collection, Williams has cemented his vision for the brand moving forward, making it clear that change is a necessary part of growth. Take a look below at bags from the collection.

Wow. You can use the one with the spikes as a weapon. Dual purpose. Lol

The clothing is fine, the suits looks impressive. The accessories are terrible. It’s so sad, every brand is just making a flap bag with their logo as the closure these days. Where’s the art and creativity in their handbag design?

I’d like to read a post about Balmain and Versace pre-fall, great bags IMO. And it would be better to cover something unexpected (stop posting always on Chanel, Bottega, Dior, Prada, Prada, Prada…). Thanks.

I really don’t mind that they post a lot of Prada. This is a business. Prada may pay very well for them to advertise & so it’s in their best interest. Or, if I don’t care to read a post I swipe left. ?

Shopper

Can’t see the bags!

I really like the shopper tote with the padlock.

Clothes are decent, if unoriginal. I like the simpler flap bags. The rest are.. Instaready, is the most diplomatic thing I choose to say.

Burcin Ergun

I also like the flap bags, the light green one looks like the Celine box.

Tana

Nothing to see here.

Oh wow ? not surprising though. This brand hasn’t produced anything special since what… 2013/2014 maybe. Givenchy clearly isn’t relevant anymore

rebecca

went a little hard on that gold chain trend, huh?

It looks like creative people struggled the most during the pandemic, the collections are strange to say the least.
