As someone who both loves Fendi bags and dislikes ruffles, Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi have me in a bit of a bind for Fall 2016. Ruffles and waves were the entire basis of the collection, from the furs down to the sold-separately bag straps, almost as if a scientist had tipped Karl off a little early on the gravitational waves discovery of a couple weeks ago.
Lagerfeld conspiracy theories aside, three-dimensional leather ruffles or stitched waves play a prominent role on almost all the leather goods the brand presented on its runway, while the bags themselves were all shapes the brand’s customers know and love. (The Peekaboo played most prominently, tacking yet another season onto its improbable-but-welcome revival.)
Check out all the runway bags below. It’s not my favorite Fendi collection of the past few years, but the brand’s willingness to find new methods of adornment and variation is always worth celebrating.

I’m a little worried for Fendi…
I love Fendi but this collection? Pass. No, not just pass — run and hide. I feel sorry for the Fendi sales staff who will have to promote these items with a smile on their face.
I agree that this is something that I didn’t expect fro Fendi, too many ruffles and waves.
I like the wave appliqué on the DotComs but not the ruffles on the other bags – very strange. If Fendi can’t make a ruffled bag work, no one can.
No one can. Ruffled bags are for third graders.
I must be in the minority because I quite like the ruffles, I think slide #7 is striking. I am not as drawn to the DotCom bag with the wave applique though.
Oh I love them! The frills I like not sure I would buy this style though. The florals and the new straps are the ones for me. I am really loving them.
What does everyone think of the Dot.com ??? Some of the bags look ok with ruffles, some not so much!
I have loved FENDI’s collection for many years but this collection has totally puts me off, might have to consider the bags from their men’s collection
The ruffled bags and the wavy bags are cheap looking. The rest of the bags are gorgeous.
Sigh… Fendi on drugs (them, not me). And I don’t mean that in a good way.

I remember when I first fell in love with Coach Borough bag and lamented that the long strap is too small/narrow.
Well, some of these Fendis are the exact opposite. The straps are sometimes much bigger than the bags!! What the…..
Well, I suppose i can be safe from thieves. You just hide the bag behind the strap! And the bag (fugly enough that it will deter thieves, hopefully) doesn’t contain much to begin with!
Great Fendi. Call me nut but I love fur bags, call me nut but I love velvet bags 🙂
