Exploration of the visual conventions of the American West has been a hallmark of creative director Stuart Vevers’s tenure at Coach, and for Coach 1941’s Fall 2017 NYFW show, Vevers moved into prairie territory with doctor bag shapes, traditional florals and leather in shades of tan and whiskey. Vlad was there yesterday afternoon to get a glimpse of all the bags the models were toting down the runway, and we have all his pictures below.
For this collection, the bags’ traditionalism was less tempered by postmodern eccentricity, and the results were a mostly classic mixture of totes, doctor-style satchels in several sizes and little frame bags with kisslock closures. Many were dotted with small, sparse prints that included dinosaurs and muscle cars, which provided a balancing note of humor to the otherwise serious looks. Check them all out below.
The T-rex pulling the stagecoach is darling. #26 also looks potentially interesting!
#8 looks sophisticated yet pretty. Love!
I’m from Texas and wear a bracelet with a boot charm on it everyday, but the motifs on these (horse, chicken) are not appealing to me. I like the dinosaur pulling the stagecoach. I like the vibe that some of the bags have without the cheesy graphics like numbers 15 and 17. You get the prairie feel without the horses and chickens. I’m still trying to figure out how the cars and dinosaurs fit into the American West theme.
That dinosaur bag is HUGE. I can’t imagine how heavy it is even before you put your stuff in it!
Yes, I also love the dinosaur pulling the stage coach and agree with you about the western theme…
I also wanted to let you know that large tote style (you mean the style in slide 8?) is actually very lightweight! They released a slightly smaller bersion recently and it’s very light. I think this size will also be lightweight!
I just bought the new Rogue tote and it is SUPER lightweight.
Although I wouldn’t wear some of these pieces, they’re all so gorgeous. Coach will always have a special place in my heart.
Honestly, Coach has been making an incredible return to the forefront of fashion these past few seasons and this is an other example of the bold creative leadership the brand needed. It’s not for everyone but it’s definitely cool AF.
Intrigued by #26. And #28 (but only if the logo is actually that big).
Love the T-Rex pulling the Coach! The bags are interesting, love the tote. (The shoes in #20 make my Birks look downright dainty.)
These are hideous. No sophistication. Coach continues to go for the younger crowd. Oh well *sigh*
The line before was hideous – it’s bad when even the sales reps are saying Coach sucked before Stuart Vevers came along. He is SAVING that line and doing a damn good job.
Coach has always had impeccable leather, love they are now definitely stepping up their game
Sigh nice try, but I am not spending that kind of money on coach. That’s the main issue they will always have. Unless Ana Wintor or some celebs start carrying they will remain a struggle.
