Chloe Iris Strass Crochet Clutch

Are you able to look at an item and see the amount of time and work that went into it, thereby justifying the price to yourself? I have done this with quite a few bags in my collection, including my Hermes Birkins. The price for a Birkin is top of the handbag line, but the craftsmanship that goes into the bag has me able to justify the price. There are other bags that I simply cannot agree with, and this Chloe bag is one.

The Chloe Iris Strass Crochet Clutch is no doubt beautiful, but it is so expensive. Like, really expensive. The kind of expensive that makes you question if this bag is made of pure gold flakes. You see, it is an elongated ivory crochet clutch with Strass Swarovski embellishment. The crystals add a beautiful touch against the crochet body and do dress the bag up. I suppose the crystals could be adding the price tag. But I am assuming that is also the process of making this bag which goes that.

I actually like this clutch. It is refreshing and adds materials that we do not usually see in the handbag world. But as much as anyone can tell you this is an investment piece, the price tag is really exorbitant. Crochet will show wear much easier as well, especially in a cream color. And then what if you loose a crystal. That would personally drive me nuts.

While there is a gold-tone frame and internal pouch pocket, I wonder if the crochet body will start to sag a bit over time. You have to note that in the stock images it will be set up as perfectly as possible yet it still appears to slouch a bit from some angles. I still love the idea of this clutch and materials used together, but the overall product is a bit lackluster and too expensive for me. Buy through Net A Porter for $2,360.

What do you think: Over-priced or priced right for the products used?

Looks too much like a sweater that was cut up and as an after thought made into a bag where they could jack-up the price. Not my taste to say the least.

Alana

It looks cute on the NAP model, but totally overpriced

Loquita

I love love LOVE Chloe, but this one is too much (the price tag, I mean – I don’t mind the design). I’ll pass!

covertanjou

I think it is a beautiful bag, but the price! Too expensive! I also wonder if the bag will sag.

mommaoh

Forget sagging – one splash of wine and this bag is ruined. Seems like a dumb material choice and color for such an expensive item.

scarcici

sooooo cute…..so expensive…….

Lydia

If I am going to pay that much for a bag it had better have real diamonds on it. So the answer is no.

Debbie

It’s a weird mix of dressy and casual and not worth the money in my opinion!

Karin bag4bag

It does look beautiful and elegant. The purse would really shine with those stones. But apart from the dirt factor, having crochet in that beige color is very ‘old lady’ !
I love a vintage look but can’t take to the macrame.

Kate

Beautiful bag and I think it would be a classic peace but…way too much (fb)

Eric

True that this bag is expensive, i believe that what makes this bag extravagant were the swarovski crystals, any item embelished with it will really caught anyones eye considering the luster and sparkle it will make, one the Red Carpet this will truly shine and glam.. i will certainly love to have this bag if i have the money, Imelda Marcos will appreciate this!

Elisabeth

It’s a lovely bag but in no way worth that price. Not made of crochet and crystal – that bag won’t age well at all unless it’s only used once a year and even then the color won’t last.

MizzJ

Hmm I thought it was gorgeous until you brought up those very valid points! I tend to steer away from paying any decent money unless I’m getting some sort of leather, which I think it’s a much better investment as it is something that actually will last over time.

Even if this bag were $25, I still wouldn’t buy it. The bag looks like something that my grandmother would wear.

lir

I think this bag is okay. Not worth that much $$ for me. The material choice is kind of in between luxurious and miss. The crystals are stunning for sure. however the material of the bag is totally not working with the crystals. the crochet thing makes the crystals look a lot cheaper.
nice color though. and the inside is gorgeous too. but if you have to keep the crochet element of this bag, I would imagine more decent color dye such as black, dark navy/blue, purple, etc . that might make the material look better.

Unless you have enough money to spend on things that won’t last long, this might be okay but it is not a very worth-it piece.

Kelly

Beautifully simple, but way too much money.

Deborah

This kind of expensive pruse makes you question your good judgement. Am not too big on the names ( but I do like the name brands) but if the pruse calls to me by name…”Buy ME” … then it’s every woman for their selfs. It is a pretty crochet clutch and ivory is a great color to work with. I love any embellishments. Would I spend that kind of money due to it’s tagged a Strass Swarovski? Nope..too small for the price tag….like I said, I will spend the bucks on a bag that calls to me…but on that price…I would most likely tell the voice pipe down.

Anna

Very classy for the spring/summer. (FB)

CoutureCoco

I adore crochet! It seems overpriced, however, I can totally understand it must be for the sheer labour – the crystals have been worked in by hand? It would be better as a tighter crochet to make the bag more rigid and in black.

BLynnT

I appreciate the use of an unusual material, but even with the crystals it looks somewhat boring. I will pass (and definitely at that price).

Ingerid Prebensen

It’s a pretty clutch, but at that price? They must be kidding! Also the crochet will get dirty very easily, won’t it?

sarahthetran

“And then what if you loose a crystal. That would personally drive me nuts.” — hahaha. i mean — you could always use the remaining slices of the wedding ring you sold to purchase the bag. 🙂

also btdub — love this site so much that i SPOILED gossip girl for myself. haha. ah well.
(thanks again, megs)

gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!!

i like this bag, but as a textile artist, i feel i need to comment on its construction. without seeing it in real life, i’m forced to make some assumptions. the scale seems pretty small, which requires a lot more skill (and time) when crocheting. if you saw the size of the hook that it was crocheted with you’d probably gasp. i bet it is super tiny. it is incredibly even and the stitches are tight which will make it stronger. the lining should keep it from sagging over time, but inevitably, sagging could be an issue, just because fibers stretch when stress is applied to them. the crystals are probably intrinsic to the construction so i doubt one would fall off, but anything is possible, and it is hard for me to tell for sure without actually seeing it. this probably took a good 20+ hours to make considering the scale of the stitch. i can definitely appreciate the craftsmanship and i even enjoy the juxtaposition of the yarn vs. the crystals, it’s unexpected. however, after all that, i think it’s worth about half the price they are asking for it.

Cami

I crochet and I have to agree on the amount of work put in – those are some tiny stitches. I am assuming this is made of a type of yarn that would not easily attract dirt, but I would need to see it in person as well… An item is worth the value you give it. I would sooner make one than buy it, but that’s just me.

Lizzie

Holy Crap that is expensive! Why is Chloe so expensive? They have classic chic clothes, but waaaay too much.

Beautiful Clutch! BLING!! (fb)

Rosanna

I think it’s kind of cute, but definitely not worth the price. I’m not sure if I could see crochet being used for evening. (fb)

Maria

what a gorgeous clutch! love it! (fb)

swags

This is a stunning piece but I do think its very overpriced. (fb)

Lilly P.

It’s a masterpiece! I love it!

Jasmine

definately overpriced… beautiful no doubt but not worth the moolah (fb)

Connie

Pretty but definitely overpriced. (fb)

JJ

It’s a very pretty clutch, but I’d never pay almost $2500 for it, especially when it’s not made of leather! If I hadn’t been told, I’d never had guessed that this was made by Chloe. The crocheted body and crystal placement is very pretty, but I have to wonder how much this would cost if it had a Rebecca Minkoff or Gryson label attached to it instead of Chloe? (fb)

Jocelyn

It’s adorable! (fb)

Gelynn

I really like this one!!! (fb)

Jenny

wow nice clutch but not for the price!! (fb)

Beth

No. I’d rather put that money toward a Birkin. (fb)

Crystin Jean

I think it’s gorgeous! It definitely stands out and one wouldn’t need to wear many accessories while carrying this clutch. On the other hand, I think it is way overpriced. Swarovski crystals on a clutch and it’s over $2k? There are many better purchases than that. I guess if you really wanted a stand out clutch and didn’t worry about money, then go for it!

Super cute. (fb)

courtney

Anything crotchet makes me think of those Sak purses – no thanks! (FB)

Sheila

GORGEOUS! Love it! It would be a perfect clutch for a night out!! (fb)

Karen

thats stunning and i would love to own that, but the price is way too painful. (fb)

Tamee

Very pretty, but can totally see this getting grubby very quickly. (fb)

Donna

It is beautiful, but not worth the money, IMHO

Kiki

I honestly wouldn’t spend the money on that…not even close! No redeeming features about that bag…not even the sparkle! (fb)

Tiff Chao

beautiful! love the jewels. (fb)

abitnerdy

not a big fan of crochet bags, they pulled it off fairly well, but yeah the price. no. (fb)

Joy

really cute!
it would definitely go with my clothes
love it!
(fb)

Pat

Wowza that’s a little too expensive! However, I do love the clutch. (fb)

a crochet clutch with chloe stamp with a price tag of over 2k?? that a BIG no-no. my grandma can whip it up for me :p (fb)

Nishita

It looks like something my granny would make and foist on us when we were kids…totally agree with ad…not worth the money, and what odds it looks terrible in person

Kadri

yes it looks cheaper than it actually probably is .. (fb)

Joyce

Def cute!

Adrienne Zedella

nice workmanship, but way too expensive. it is classy, though (fb)

Nika

this is beautiful (fb)

Moonchild

It is pretty, but to me, it looks kind of boring.
It’s definitely not worth spending so much money on.
There’re better bags out there. 🙂
(Just my opinion, though) 🙂
