This Resort 2020 Bag Has Me Re-Thinking Off-White

Hear me out...

Virgil Abloh is a busy man. When he’s not creating buzz around his designs for Louis Vuitton Menswear, he’s overseeing the creative direction of his own line, Off-White, which he founded in 2013. Virgil Abloh, but particularly Off-White the label’s success is impossible to ignore. The brand has reached a sort of cult status, and it is a favorite of streetwear fans, celebrities, social media stars and stylish everyday people. While I’ve certainly lusted after a few Off-White pieces (the cool tees and sneakers have called my name in the past) I’ve never considered Off-White as a handbag brand that I would consider purchasing from.

Then, when reviewing Resort 2020 collections I clicked on Off-White and sort of changed my tune. I had kind of assumed that all Off-White bags had phrases or writing on them, so I was surprised to see a structured leather top handle bag that appeared chic, but cool. There wasn’t any in your face writing, or bold stripes, though I immediately noticed Off-White’s arrow logo hardware. I don’t mind it, rather I find it works on this bag, and I’m surprised at how much I really like it.

Upon further research, I noticed that this shape isn’t particularly new and it’s called The Jitney Top Handle Bag. It is already part of the Off-White line up in the brand’s usual aesthetic. Sans graffiti, The Resort 2020 Jitney Top Handle Bag has me questioning if I would ever buy a bag from Off-White. Check out more photos of the Jitney below, which was also shown in a belt bag version for Resort 2020.

Weird campaign. I get that these ads don’t need to be practical, but The sea cliffs and fishing net do nothing to realistically showcase these bags.
The way they are featured does nothing for them in terms of making them desirable.

I do not like what he’s doing at LV Mens. There isn’t enough difference between OW and LV to justify it. I can get the bungee cord, industrial aesthetic for way less at OW rather than LV. Idk. I think it would’ve made a better like collection rather than him being the CD.

Still nope.

Jaime

I feel the same…it does nothing for me.

Rosa Lily

It’s just like any other top handle satchel with a different logo.

Some of the bags would be fine except that the logo (ugly) is overwhelming. Also, I understand their need to showcase their shoes/boots, but wearing boots on the beach is just silly and beyond impractical.

While I do agree with your assessment…don’t forget Chanel did there whole line from the beach. Like I’m bringing my $5000 bag and a tweed coat to the beach. LOL

#7 is attractive, if you can ignore the prominent red camel toe next to it for a few seconds

Giselle

It looks like Virgil Abloh got access to LV factories.

I totally get your angle as I’m not a fan of OW but I’m really feeling this bag. It’s different from what he’s been doing. I wonder if this style is going to reflect on a whole new line…
