These Green Bags Will Have You Feeling Lucky on St Patrick’s Day

Forget the pot of gold, I want to find a green bag at the end of the rainbow

With the month of March comes Lá Fhéile Pádraig, more commonly known as Saint Patrick’s Day, a holiday celebrated annually on March 17th. Irish or not, chances are you’re familiar with this Irish holiday and the many traditions that come along with it. Wearing the color green or items covered with shamrocks are customary for St Patty’s Day and you may find people adorning themselves with leprechauns, pots of gold, or shirts that read “kiss me, I’m Irish”. St Patrick’s Day is usually celebrated with a parade or festival—Chicago even takes it one step further by dyeing the Chicago River a bright emerald green to celebrate the holiday! Originally established in the early 17th century as a religious holiday, today we also observe this fun and cheerful day because it celebrates Ireland’s unique culture and those with Irish heritage. If you’ve thought about adding a green bag to your arsenal, March is a great month to do it since wearing green will help you avoid being pinched on St Patty’s Day.

If you’ve ever been to Ireland, you know that it’s impossible to describe the beauty of it. The country is filled with lush rolling hills, historic castles, and iconic seascapes (and not to mention the friendliest locals in the world!). I personally have a special tie to Ireland, my husband was born and raised there and we had our wedding and spent the first two years of our lives as a married couple there. I was smitten with Ireland from the moment I stepped foot there, and you should believe everything you’ve heard about how enchanting it is. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, you definitely should, and please message me first because I love to give recommendations on my favorite things to do and places to see there!

Because I have such a strong affinity for Ireland, affectionately nicknamed the Emerald Isle, I love all things green- especially bags. Green is actually one of my favorite colors for a handbag because it stands out but still manages to be subtle, especially if you go for a shade of darker green. I have an emerald colored Marc Jacobs Stam that I recently purchased and have been carrying on repeat all winter. It matches everything in my closet and is the only green bag I’ve seen all winter, which is perfect if you like to carry something a bit different from the norm. My husband calls it my “frog bag”, but I like to think of it as my lucky charm bag. I think green is one of the most underappreciated handbag colors, and I wish there was a broader selection available.

If you’re looking for a green bag for St Patty’s Day or just because you love the color green, I’ve picked some of my favorites available now!
