Real talk, can we stop buying things just because the internet tells us we should? I’m not here to rag on millennials, I am a millennial, but I have had enough with the totally impractical, ridiculously over-the-top insta-worthy trends. This not so outrageous rant comes on the heels of the latest instagram click bait from experimental French label Jacquemus.
Jacquemus is not shy about creating thought provoking and outrageous designs. In fact, late last year the label garnered worldwide attention with the release of the Le Chiquito Mini Bag. This itty bity leather bag costs a whopping $535 and holds next to nothing. Naturally, it has been seen in the hands of Dua Lipa, Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Emily Ratajkowski and more. And now, just when you thought you’d seen it all, Jacquemus is back at it introducing a little sister version of the Le Chiquito Bag. Meet the Jacquemus Mini Chiquito Bag, the mini bag we never needed in our lives.
Earlier this week Jacquemus announced on its social media channels that the bag (can we even really call it a bag?) was available online and the post received more than 90,000 likes on instagram. Shortly after the announcement fans began leaving comments of disappointment as the bag had immediately sold out. Bummed out? Fear not because you can still pre-order one via Moda Operandi for $275.
If this is the result of leftover leather scraps and it’s selling, I’d say it’s totally ridiculous and genius at the same time.
I just saw a video on YouTube of someone who bought this. It’s TINY on video. Can you imagine how small it would be in person. It even came with a strap. This is a bag charm. Plain and simple and for people with more money than sense.
How is this different than Hermès rodeo charms or the tiny Kelly charm that is coming out for 2k each?
I have to add that this quality is nothing compared to Hermes…the glazing is terrible on these tiny bag charms.
So ridiculous that I am actually happy I am in my 50’s and buy whatever I feel like wearing and not what is trendy.
Me, too! Not ridiculous, just smart, confident and savvy that we don’t have the desire to follow trends, but instead follow our heart! I’d be hard pressed to see many women in our age group follow this trend.
ALL the Brands are giving their bags away to influencers/celebrities, people just forget they got it Free
This is a good point. I doubt there are any millennial actually buying it
The tiny design is adorable.
Yes! Some kids likes tchotchkes! Very cute but wouldn’t pay a penny for them. I think I’ll enjoy how they look on someone else’s bag.
Things you could carry, chicly:
3-4 gummy bears for snack emergencies
Daily vitamins/medications
1 piece of gum
Less than enough change for a parking meter
If you lose a crown during lunch, you could put it in there so you don’t misplace it!
This little bag really pays for itself when you think of all the opportunities it might come in handy! 😉
A contact case, maybe? Hahaha
Just an expensive bag charm.
Let’s start by calling it what it is: a key chain….. It’s cute. I’ll take it for $5.00.
I see it as a bag charm. Like buying an hermes rodeo.
BINGO That’s exactly what it is.. I have the Balenciaga version, the mini-mini, in several colors.. They’re super cute. I got all of mine on the preloved market- saved a bunch of $$. I’m sure these will be available preowned pretty soon.
I can imagine these being insta-popular with “influencers” (whom many are also iGen/Gen Z), but I sincerely doubt that most Millennials will not add this to their wardrobe.
lets not say millennials buy whatever you tell them to buy – lets say so called influencers – youtube/instagram buy whatever you tell them to buy to get 10 extra likes on their crap
Easily influenced people. I agree with you. I see people of all ages following trends. Don’t forget that before we had Instagram and Facebook we had magazines and the like. Keeping up with the Jones’s was the term used back then.
that was hard work where people had to buy a magazine and read, how i love for the simple days – lol
now people waste their money on the crap the kartrashians are pushing
I recall a while back Balenciaga had a mini bag purse charm which was super cute. I had to have one and bought one I want to say it was in the 250-350 range. Loved it for a while and quickly got bored of it and ended up selling it. I was lucky and broke even on that one. It became the start of my it’s okay to love it and not have it mantra for handbags & SLG’s. If it’s not really functional for me it’s a waste of money. If I can get my moneys worth out of it I’ll buy it.
I have that little mini-mini in several colors, I use them as bag charms. They’re too small for credit cards & even a lipstick may not fit- but they are so darn cute.. I didn’t buy retail, I got all of mine on the preloved market, paid $75-$150 for them. Yes, a high price for basically a bag accessory but have mercy there are many labels that command prices of $500-$900 on the used market for their lil keychain/charms! (I’m looking at you Fendi & Hermes) I’m happy with mine.. ECHO: They’re so darn cute.
I concur! It’s mostly millennials that are following the influencers and trends. People shouldn’t follow the masses but have a sense of their own style and what they like .
“Don’t buy this. It’s dumb. But if you do here is our referral link” I’m not hating, just documenting.
You can’t fix stupid and some paste just stupid to buy this.
People I meant darn you auto correct
OMG, how funny & STUPID people are! IF you buy this BAG CHARM for $275, you DESERVE to be robbed blind! Money doesn’t guarantee class OR brains!
Fendi and others are selling the same stuff (bag charms/key chains) for same prices and nobody makes a sound. When the bag charm/key chain looks like a bag, it’s suddenly newsworthy. 😀 😀
