We’re living in uncertain times right now as novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 spreads rapidly throughout our country and our world and many of us are facing weeks of self-isolation. I myself have re-located from NYC to my parents home on Long Island as the city prepares for a possible shelter in place. I’m following self-quarantining rules as we all should be, though I will need to replenish prescriptions and groceries soon.
Last Sunday I went to the grocery store for the final time and purposefully left my handbag at home, leaving with my credit card, keys and phone only. All of which I was able to clean with a lysol wipe when I returned home. At this time, information on how long COVID-19 lives on surfaces and different materials is constantly changing. We’re working on a longer, well-researched piece on how to best sanitize our precious bags, but until then we’ve found 3 brands that offer 100% machine washable bags. These bags are perfect to use now and beyond. Any brands we missed? Leave us a comment and let us know!
Rothy’s
Rothy’s was founded on the premise of creating stylish products that customers adore all the while focusing on sustainability. First founded as a shoe brand, Rothy’s recently introduced a line of bags that are knit from 100% recycled materials. Rothy’s signature is thread that is spun from recycled water bottles. As added bonus, every Rothy’s bag is 100% machine washable.
BAGGU
BAGGU was founded in 2007 with a very simple nylon sack bag. Now, over ten years later BAGGU’s assortment includes handbags, and pouches that are simplistic, functional and stylish. While not all BAGGU products are machine washable, according to BAGGU’s website, recycled ripstop nylon and heavyweight nylon products may be machine washed. Additionally, canvas BAGGU bags are machine washable, with the exception of bags with hardware.
Naghedi
Sara Naghedi’s namesake label was founded with the premise of creating sustainable and ethically sourced bags that are also stylish and affordable. Naghedi handbags emerged as an accessible, casual counterpart to Sara Naghedi’s main luxury label, Deux Lux. Naghedi bags are crafted from durable neoprene, and each Naghedi bag is made from a unique process of folded, woven Neoprene, making the bags extremely durable. Additionally, the bags are wrinkle, mildew, and abrasion resistant. We reached out to the brand to discuss washing, and a rep for the brand explained that nearly all of the St. Barths totes are machine washable on a delicate cycle (don’t forget to line dry!).
These bags are great for their washability factor, but all 3 are made in China; this is problematic for me due to the pandemic.
Thank you. Imaginative subject. Please keep em coming. Maybe post too some oldie but goodies.
We are working on more articles that relate to what’s happening in our lives right now and will be sure to post some oldies but goodies as well!
Would love to hear about how luxury brands are adapting to the pandemic. Who is being innovative, who is being kind?
And how are luxury bag brands responding to their 2 main manufacture sites of China and Italy being closed for business
that’s the plan for the coming weeks! Stay tuned and check back in.

MZ Wallace. I washed my quilted backpack in a bucket of soap water (didn’t put in machine since i was afraid of ruining the hardware). I air dried it. Came out clean and beautiful.
Good to know, thanks for sharing your experience!
Good to know – thanks!

I pulled out my lululemon festival crossbody bag and city adventurer backpack for daily use- these are still available on their website. I can wipe them with Lysol wipes with no cares and they are super light and practice to boost. I am also encouraged by the company being proactive about store closure early on and paying their employees wages during store closure.
I always washed my longchamp totes. Never had any problems with it.
Maybe that backpack will be good.
Love the look and ethos of Rothy’s – thanks for introducing this brand that I’d never heard off but will definitely buy from.
LeSportSac bags are washable foldable and lightweight
My MCM tote is washable. Its reversible with a fabric interior. Ive been tossing it in the washer for a couple of years now. Its my go to bag for everyday even though it may be not the IT bag, its certainly durable and well made. Perfect for these times!
My leather MCM tote with a reversible fabric interior is completely washable. I have been tossing it in the washer with mild soap for several years. Its a well made bag and perfect for these times. It was never the IT BAG ( i have several of those) but its gets the job done.
